Sorry for raising this in a new thread but I can't find the original.

In that thread I was asked to state the where Derek had said racist comments. With the conversation happening now on E4 I've remembered one of them.

The infamous phrase was that someone, probably Makosi or Science, I truely can't remember who, was so bad "It's enough to make you want to vote for the BNP"

Now I ask you to be totally honest here...what would have happened if Max or Saskia had uttered those words...

I'm not sure what the point of this is. A black person makes a tongue in cheek comment about meeting the only other black person who makes him want to join the BNP, a racist party, and it's being taken seriously? Kinda different meaning if it's said by a predominatly white person isn't it?

It's like when Ron Atkinson was going round America meeting black people and complaining that they were allowed to say the N word and he wasn't, and he just couldn't see why.

It's a very strange thing for Derek to have said.

Did he mean that he thinks Science is a bad example to black people and that he, Derek, is a good example?

They are neither particularly good role models for black people, or pink, white, brown, red, yellow, or purple with green spots people.

Underneath the black skin of Derek beats the heart of a white Tory Empire lover. Does he really want to be accepted so bad among such awful people?

That isn't my point, why is he deemed to being exempt because he's black. Beside Dereks comment was said under duress and with venom more than tongue in cheek.

Max's comment on Makosi's hair was deemed racial by some members of this board. Despite being the most tongue in cheek person in there, it has to be racially motivated than tongue in cheek by the board?

I know it wasn't your point Merx.

When I said that Max's comment may be misconstrued some FMs here didn't understand what I meant.

I knew he said it as a joke, and for me it was funny, but I could see some people might think it had a racist undertone.

I don't think Max is racist at all.

You're right about the double standards Merx.

I said in the Derek thread below he had made a sexist comment about good wives.

At least Maxwell can claim he was joking. He is a lazy f^cker though.

If I remember rightly, although I may be wrong, Derek said this in the Diary Room about Science. I don't think he was under duress when he said it, he was quite calm. Which actually makes the comment worse as he had actually time to think before he uttered it.

We're probably reading far too much into it though.

Kind of like either of us saying to someone we don't like, "I'm not in favour of hanging, but in your case I'd be happy to make an exception."

Why is that a racist remark? Derek didn't imply that one culture/race/skin is actually more superior than other, did he? No, he didn't.

The exact quote was: "Science is the first black person that really makes me feel like wanting to join the BNP!"

It's clearly a rhetorical statement. What Derek tried to imply was that: racism against colored/black people is sometimes actually caused (or encouraged) by the behaviour of the colored/black people themselves (in this case, he was refering to Science extreme ghetto behaviour). Derek has a point there. Nothing is wrong about this, considering the fact that Derek himself is a black person. If Derek was a white, such comment is certainly distasteful because it would imply the superiority of white race.

Now consider what Craig had said: "Makosi will last LONGER at Zimbabwe BB". What Craig was suggesting?

That Makosi is more accepted in Zimbabwe because she is a Zimbabwean.

That Makosi is less accepted in UK because she is not a British.

And the fact that Craig himself is a British and not a Zimbabwean had increased the distasteful flavour in his comment. He implicitly implied the superiority of one nationality (in this case, his) over another (in this case, Makosi's).

Maxwell and Saskia laughed at this statement and noddingly approved it. No surprise because Saskia herself did say in her BB audition that "all immigrants should be sent back to their countries". This is not necessarily a racist comment; but it clearly shows her preference in life. Maxwell also did once, unapologetically, mock Roberto Italian accent as if his Cockney accent is MUCH SUPERIOR than Roberto's.

I don't understand why people can mock and make fun of other races, nationalities, cultures and languages? We can do it within our own group of ethnicity, but not against other groups!
