BIG Brother winner Anthony Hutton is to light up his home town - by switching on the Christmas lights.

The star, from Stanley Street, Consett, County Dur-ham, is to be asked to perform the ceremony on the new lights in December.

He will be approached by Derwentside District Council leader Alex Watson.

Anthony's grandmother, Mary Hutton, said he would be honoured.

She said: "He is a Consett lad so, of course, he will do it and it will be great for him.

"There is nothing he won't do for his home town. He is that sort of lad, and the nation is aware of that."

Councillor Watson said Anthony had been the first choice to switch on the lights since he entered the show. He said: "We would be privileged because he has done a hell of a lot for Consett. He is a genuine lad and had done very well."

Last week, Bernie Allaker, manager of Annfield Plain Association Football Club, where Anthony plays, said he would have to lose some weight before he won his place back.

But now he hopes Anthony is prepared to play for them at home on Wednesday, against Ferryhill Football Club, at 6.30pm.

Will he still be famous by Christmas?

after, the odd supermarket opening and nightclub p.a, turning on Xmas lights, is going to be the extent of his Showbiz career.

He could do well in Saturday Night Fever, couldn't he? Jonny did well with Boogie Nights.

I'd like him to have some success like that, Cameron. Nothing wrong with the boy.

I don't think he wants to be hugely famous - just to make a living at what he enjoys doing.

Good luck ant I am so glad he won he was the most genuine in there I do hope he does well and earns himself something. He may not be the brightest in there but he was himself the whole time . Thank goodness the gbp thought so too. well done ant.

If he cuts it I hope he gets into SNF, it would be an amazing experience. That's one I'd love to see.

To be honest, I never really liked him that much so I wouldn't be bothered if he was in it or not if I see it. However, if that's what he wants for himself then like I say, good luck to him because it'd be a fantastic thing to do.
