More Sunderland singing sensations have made it through to the finals of the region's biggest X Factor-style competition.

X Factor's Journey South sang head-to-head with Pop Idol's Zoe Birkett at the Music Means Life competition, which aims to help raise the £1.9million needed to build a teenage cancer unit at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The Journey South boys and Zoe joined two former teenage cancer patients, Catherine Rhatigan, 18, and Laura Howe, 20, and Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton on the judging panel.

Singer marches to final

SINGER Ashley-Jane Li, from Hexham, has made it through to the final of the Music Means Life competition.

The young singer performed in front of a celebrity panel including Big Brother contestants Anthony Hutton and Liam McGough to be among five finalists selected from her round.
