I agree it is only a game however if you want to see housemates playing the game then you have to get rid of the lynching mob, media etc, otherwise you will never see housemates being themselves or playing to win. If I was in the house and if I am honest with myself I would be worried about how people viewed me I would not want to be spat at in the streets, be ridiculed by the newspapers and walk through angry mobs at the end of my eviction, I would be therefore act like Scott, uninteresting, able to get on with everyone in the house, not cause offence and bite my tongue when confronted with dislikeable housemates.

If you want fun and games, housemates arguing then we the viewers have to bring down our barriers, we should not be too judgemental or rise an eyebrow when we hear a housemate who dislikes another or is finding someone irritable and moans about that person to a fellow housemate, I have done it about workmates even family when I am really peeved, it happens in real life surely we should allow it to happen in the house and not be surprised when it does, we all talk about people even those we love and therefore we shouldn’t be so uptight when we see it in the house.

We should also change our attitudes to those playing a game, that is what big brother is all about to survive as long as one can in the house with out being evicted, they should be allowed to use any tactic they have in their power, if the other housemates don’t suss it out except we the public and recognise that person in the house is not genuine then whom are we to say it is wrong of them to be different in hope of wining, we the public it seems don’t like see people try to win the 70k, or think it is a competition, we should treat it as thus and pat the person on the back for trying to win it by devious means. However I would be appalled to see nasty bullying in the house, I think that would be a mistake and shouldn’t happen.

Therefore I think if we want to see an improvement then perhaps we the viewer including myself as I am as guilty as everyone else has been to change our attitudes about how the game should be played and viewed.

Interesting post, but in my opinion, anyone who wants to go through the arduous process to be on Big Brother should be aware that there's a chance the public won't like them and just not be too fazed by this in the first place. Otherwise, don't bother applying - there's plenty of others out there who will. If you weigh up the people who've come out of 4 series of BB to boos with those who've got cheered, I'd say it's probably about 4 or 5 to 1 in favour of cheers anyway. It's only people who act like an arse or uber-bitch who tend to be booed (Tim, Justine, Adele, Fed, Tania, Andrew etc.)

Yes, an interesting post. I would like to see people who are naturally funny, like Brian, but then I know it is difficult to find these people, because we would probably then think that they were playing up to the cameras or just entering to try to become famous.

To be honest, I am now just starting to enjoy BB4 - I thought last week was good with the African exchange. It was also good to see a BB in another country and to see how the different housemates inter-reacted. I think the producers are trying hard to arrange different things - it is just the housemates that are a bit disappointing, but then it must be really difficult to choose them and you never know how they are going to be when they enter the house or how they will mix with the others. Similarly, because the housemates have all watched BB before and know what it is about, it must be difficult for them not to have a game plan. No matter who enters or how they act, I think we will always moan and try to find faults - that is part of it really for the viewers.

I think it would be nicer if they had some music played into the house now and again like the South African house or someone in there with a guitar or something. It seemed to me that the South African BB were a lot less strict and they had more staple supplies of food, which meant that they could bet more on their tasks and therefore they spent more on alcohol, which raised the spirits in every way.

Oh well, I wonder what the surprise will be tonight and what the revelation will be on BBLB on Sunday?

Some very interesting points (makes a change.. :D ). Michelle, I know what you mean, that seems to be the case with this year's HMs but as Finchy9 points out the type of HMs that should be in the house are those who are prepared to take the flak. They know the score, that's why they applied.

I think this year's HMs are just playing the game, believing that by remaining non-confrontational that somehow they will endear themselves to the public. The trouble is with that tactic as we have seen, is that the slightest bit of annoyance in a person is emphasised that much more and hence the reason for boos to Justine, Fed, and Tania. If they had been in previous BBs I doubt if they'd have got the same reception. The HM's tictacs have back-fired on them, the public have become disillusioned with the show and in a way we're venting our anger at the contestants for being so dull.

However, the HMs should have learnt from previous BBs. I bet that the two most outrageous characters, in terms of personal behaviour, have been Nick and Jade, and they have probably received the most fame and financial rewards. This lot are just in it to win it, and hope to return to their mundane lives at the end. Fair enough, but why bother applying, but more to the point, why did their applications become accepted?
