they are great fun Jezi - we blackened my mate before she got married a couple of years ago and took her round the village on a trailer pulled by a tractor..much tooting from passing cars and hilarity all round

it is quite difficult though to avoid getting covered in whatever gunk you're using so you have to be careful

Me too - Suzanne! ;) We don't have blackening tradition over here, but we have "Polterabend" tradition, which is musch more nicer one. :D

aw suzanne!! You soooo should! If it wasn't for the obvious I'd arrange it myself ::lol::

hehe felicity you are really lucky, I think half the fun would be getting covered in it yourself!

they only seem to have put up the bit about the blackening on Cameron's Column section (I still think you look like a footballer in the picture they've used! It is a nice photo though). Maybe they'll put up the rest later, I'm not sure

Depends on your friends what happens - but it's usually nice evening/weekend with your friends last time when you're single ::lol:: - and at this far among me and my friends, it hasn't ever been senseless!

I realise that, Jezi. It's universal. But some has really senseless Hen/Stag, but not me and my friends, because we'd love to be friends in the future as well and we are too good-hearted to do any harm to anyone. Polterabend is a German word. Plans for the evening/weekend is usually based on the interests (which she might not to do for a long time when she is married and when she's having children) that bride has and something new to experience and remember with and something enjoyable with best friends. But blackening - sounds something to avoid. It seems to be not fun at all. :-? But over herepeople usually moves to live together with children, they don't get married that often ;)

::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::
What it would have looked like if Charles or Camilla would have had blackening?

()^ Mari ::lol:: what an image that's put in my head.

Charles may actually have smiled for once, he never seems to look very happy :-?

Big secret: my sister-in-law is getting (at last) married 27th of August this year! :D She's 37 years of age and she don't have any children of her own yet (some women do become mothers firs time when they are in their 40's over here), but her future husband (they've lived together couple of years already) has got three "weekend"-children from his previous marriage. ;) That's why the subject is quite topical in a couple of months. ::lol::

aww that's really nice :D all the best to them.

Oh I was going to say earlier but I forgot, nowadays anyway a blackening isn't done to be horrible. It's mainly just done for a laugh :D

Thanks Jezi! She had a really long living-together-relationship (over ten years) which ended without having children before she met this ice-hockey coach - who's her third partner anyway. I'm really happy for them! :D

The column today had a bit about getting to play games while singing in England including the one where you have to hold a foam covered balloon in your mouth while someone razors the foam off ::lol:: I've seen it done before and it looks like so much fun!! also how the hotel he stayed in resembled Fawlty Towers ::lol:: sounds hideous.

Little bit about the Royal Wedding and how while this is being read he'll be at Julyan's stag weekend in Barcelona.

Favourite bit has to be about Michael Douglas' face-lift though as I totally agree. I mean everyone gets old, what's the point in trying to make yourself young? waste of money.

Actually bought the paper today instead of reading a copy at lunch time

I had a quick flick through but there wasn't that much else interesting...
