Still having an awesome time - we've met up with two other friends from Orkney who are over here travelling as well, so it's been no end of fun.

We're in Queenstown at the moment, staying in some friends' fantastic penthouse apartment overlooking the most amazing river and mountain scenery - pure luxury! If this is backpacking, I can highly recommend it!

We're heading back up to Christchurch at the weekend via the west coast and glaciers etc and picking up a camper can to take up to the North Island. Can't wait! This surely is one fun country.

Is there anyone left on Orkney at all?
I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time in your camper can.::lol::

Great to hear from you.

Don't exactly have much (any!) spare time this week but the main bit of the column is HERE and it's about birthdays, the birthday he just had etc.

There were two other wee bits... one about hearing local accents on hol and meeting a couple who live near Duthie Park. Really can't remember the other bit and dunno what's happened to the paper.

Will be less busy the week after next so will get back to "normal"!

Oops, SAY.

The camper can is going really well - loadsa fun! Got across to the North Island this morning on the ferry - beautiful crossing - so we'll be here now until we head back to Christchurch to get our flights to Sydney and Hong Kong before heading home on 30th. New Zealand is a fantastic country - really impressed with most aspects of it.

The main this week is about signing up to do a 15,000ft skydive while in New Zealand. It has been cancelled twice due to dodgy weather but he hopes to do it next week (the picture they have is quite interesting....!!!). Mentions his fear of heights and how he can't face doing a bungee jump or go further than the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower before his legs shake... hope you're alright muppet!

Mentions how the government are going to be paying £22 billion on "renewing the UK's Trident nuclear weapons program" and quite rightly says "that's a lot of classrooms and a lot of hospital wards."

For some reason the last bit is on the website and it's about monitoring babies gurgles and stuff... here.

OK maybe not, mum says they were taken for recycling today  I'm so sorry!!! Mind has been everywhere, can't even remember what was in it except they're no longer using the picture they always have at the top and appear to have changed it to one from the Valentine's thing this year.

Seen as I really can't do without that vast sum of money (!!!) I'd better do this while I'm remembering.

Main bit is all about falling in love on the way back from NZ  @^@ ... read all about it here ;) There's an ace picture with this actually, it's very pretty.

In other news, saying happy birthday to Elton John and mentions the concert he did at Pittodrie the other year where he managed to get a ticket. Laughing at the guys from RAF Lossiemouth getting advised to grow beards so they "fit in better" while over in Afghanistan and how the only time he's had a beard was in BB in honour of Gos once he got the boot. Speaking about speed cameras and how in the EE's transport survey about 60% of the 1000+ who were asked felt that Aberdeen's ones were in the wrong places. Says how folk quite likely assume the cameras are there to make money but he doesn't mind if the cash is going back into work on the roads. Also mentions how it has come out that Aberdeen's bus fares are the highest in Scotland.

The main bit's about "different" food again and some of the weird and wonderful things he's tried (jellyfish being the only one he couldn't get down). Remembering how the first time he tried melon was at the summer shows in Orkney when it was a big treat in the summer to get slices of it there. Mentions how he brought "the most bizarre fruit (he has) ever seen" home but when he gave it to a friend she already knew it was a dragon fruit and had bought some in the Deen.

Speaks about folk clearing a casino in New York and finding £10K worth of money and tokens! Being shocked at the long lists for swimming lessons in Aberdeen city and shire for such a vital skill. Happy to hear Jennifer Lopez speaking against the whole "size zero" thing in fashion. Hoping abody had a nice Easter and saying he just found out that chocolate eggs are supposed to represent the empty tomb after Jesus was resurrected. (did you not get taught that at school?! we used to get told every Easter without fail)
