Same here - I had some vague idea that the Easter bunny used to lay the eggs....oh heck, guess I was missing for the biology lessons, as well as the alphabet.

I got this from a chocolate site:

Quote:
'Easter eggs do not owe their origins to Christianity and originally the festival of Easter itself itself had nothing to do with Christianity either. A closer look at the history of both Easter and the Easter Egg reveals a much earlier association with pagan ritual and in particular, the pagan rites of spring, dating back into pre history.

For us, the ancient rites celebrating the Spring Equinox are most obviously associated with the mysterious Druids and places like Stone Henge, but most ancient races around the world had similar spring festivals to celebrate the rebirth of the year. The Egg, as a symbol of fertility and re-birth, has been associated with these rites from the earliest times.

As well as adopting the festival of Eostre, the Egg, representing fertility and re-birth in pagan times, was also adopted as part of the Christian Easter festival and it came to represent the 'resurrection' or re-birth of Christ after the crucifixion and some believe it is a symbol of the the stone blocking the Sepulchre being 'rolled' away.'

But if there's a packet of Dairy Milk Buttons inside the hollow egg, what does that mean?? Biblical scholars could be debating that one for years!

Main bit this week is about how it's getting to the time of the year where Big Brother is going to be starting. Gets onto the subject of Jade and how she'd parted company with her agent either with them dropping her or the other way round. Says how it can't be easy considering how long she has got all her advice from them. Makes the point that whoever decided she should go on Big Brother again made a huge mistake but now she needs someone to make sure she can try and make a "normal" life for her and her kids.

The Thirst for Life challenge finished a week ago and he's not had a drink yet, his next challenge is to go for 40 days without sweeties.

Big praise for Kylie Minogue looking fab in Shanghai launching her beachwear range despite her break-up and fight against cancer. "Gorgeous, glamorous and a great example - go Kylie!"

Speaks about friends of his who own a fancy shop in orkney selling watches, jewellery made in Orkney and the like. Tells a wee story about how one of the friends overheard the other speaking to a customer who was in after a sympathy card. However as they were out of these the lady offered a look at the get well cards instead...! Oops!

Delighted that Jim'll Fix It is back on the TV and how his mum has a letter he wrote to them asking if his brother could have a go "driving the QE2" but makes the point if she has the letter there wasn't much chance of it happening!

Right then the main bit is about graduating in 1992 (woah!!!) and taking his first holiday to America (well Hawaii to be more exact) despite being a "poor ex student". He speaks about hiring a car and feeling rich because it was over $2 to every pound and buying heaps of stuff, so much so he had to buy a travel trunk to cart all the stuff home. This all being brought back to his mind as this is the first time since the year he went on this trip that the dollar has been so weak against the pound breaking the psychological two-dollar barrier.

Getting ready for the Africa trip he's leaving for on Wednesday to help launch Cherise's charity to help young people to learn about topics which will help them stay safe.

Discussing burials versus cremation and finding out that every cremation at 850C in Australia makes nearly 8 stone of Carbon Dioxide, he thinks it's better to get buried under a tree and let it convert you into oxygen.

The preservatives in bacon being bad for you and an American study claiming you're 2 times as likely to get chronic bronchitis if you eat it 14 times or more in a month.

Reality TV getting worse and worse as a new programme is being brought out where Danielle Lloyd is following 20 "hopefuls" who are training up to be real-life WAGS....!

Got here ok, shame my luggage didn't. It's been a frantic couple of days getting ready for the opening tomorrow, but hopefully it'll all go well. And hopefully I'll have clean boxers to wear...

Hope it went well.

The main bit is obviously about the trip to Zambia and gives details about the project. Cherise has made a big impact in Africa and "wanted to give something back to the nation, particularly to the children". It says how it started off as a bare area but they've built it up so it has mulitiple purposes where children can learn through educational programmes on a wide variety of subjects. There's a road area with junctions, road signs etc and they're building a lecture hall. He also comments that he likes seeing how more money is going into education about Aids to help prevent it rather than just on medication once people have it.

A couple of weeks ago he said about being able to eat the vast majority of weird and wonderful things but when Cherise brought out bottles of grass hoppers to fry and eat he had to say no!

Feeling glad he's been sticking to the anti-malaria treatment as a newspaper report in Zambia said there were 3.8 million cases last year. Since the year 2000 however they have been making an effort to reduce this and over the past 3 years there has been a decrease of 10%.

So excited over finding 3 pieces of toblerone from his NZ trip he had to put it in the column :P No he put it in because this is how chocolate tastes best apparently rather than in the fridge or whatever.

And finally being disappointed to hear about E & M's in Aberdeen (Esslemont & Macintosh is the proper name for those of you who don't know, I'm hoping that's the spelling....!) as you used to always find something "special" there. He bought his brother a pair of leather gloves for when he went to New York to propose to his now wife for example.

Thanks Jezi - it ended up being fine indeed. I've stopped off for a few days in London, was staying at Gos's. Went to see WICKED last night with Gos, Jon Tickle and my pal Nic. We had really good seats and all of us enjoyed it enormously.

Having a couple of days with Julyan and Simone now - got two meetings tomorrow in Edinburgh - and I'm hoping to load some of the Zambia photos once I get home later in the week.

The main bit is about the trip to Africa and how it shows just how lucky people here generally are. He starts by speaking about his recent trip to NZ and how relaxing it was and the similarities between there and the UK. He says about the major difference in road transport standards in regards to car wheels, headlights and the quality of the roads themselves (there are potholes big enough to lose your bike in there). He's realised how lucky people in Scotland are with even the things like rubbish getting taken away, electricity supplies and roadworks because once they're gone at least you know the roads will be of a good enough standard to drive on safely.

Shopping in Zambia and being eager to try out local foods where he found a tin of Harvest Foods faba beans which were made in Egypt. Apparently they looked nice enough from the packaging but said on them "Foul with Hot Pepper" so he was left wondering if they were nicer without it....!

Liking the fact Avril Lavigne has recorded her latest song with 8 different languages in the chorus and hoping this is to help encourage young folk take up a language rather than just to make money.

Not liking that cash for the Aberdeen and North-East Deaf Society has been cut. He says he knows quite a few people who get something out of it and mentions using sign language since completing an elementary certificate in it.

And I'm just going to type this bit "It seems there are moves afoot to tax gardens, greenhouses and sit-ooteries ( ::lol:: at "sit ooteries", sorry lol!) - at least in England. I can't figure out if it makes sense or not. I think somebody should decide whether they are going to stick to the poll-tax type charges or the old rateable values - and not hit us with not a doubling up of both."

Sorry for delay!!! You lucky thing seeing Wicked, glad you enjoyed it.

You'd think they'd be chick peas wouldn't you (cue a Goodyism...)

My Turkish corner shop sells a lot of these, if you're interested!
