Had a great day today in London - Lord Snowdon is a fascinating man and we had a great laugh. Met up with Anthony and met Pete for the first time, what a great lad. Pics to follow...

I might make it - he has three dates soon in Scotland and I might be in Edinburgh about that time so he's invited me along.

Not exactly a summary but thanks to a Mr C Stout for donating the full report this evening!

Everybody says that time gets faster the older you get. I used to think that the summer school holidays were for EVER, but I’m starting to see what the teachers mean when they say the break is not nearly long enough!

This speeding up of time came into sharp focus recently when I was contacted about a book that’s being prepared to celebrate Channel 4’s twenty-fifth anniversary.

It goes without saying that my immediate reaction was that Ch4 can’t have been broadcasting for twenty five years – I remember it launching for goodness’ sake! I remember the interminable wait for it to reach Orkney – the broadcasting equipment for the Northern Isles wasn’t installed until a few years after the rest of Scotland.

So what was my part in this book going to entail? A simple trip to London to have a portrait photograph done for the chapter about reality telly – a genre more or less pioneered by Channel 4 – along with the other Big Brother winners. Anthony Hutton BB6 and Pete Bennett BB7 were to be photographed the same day as me.

The thing is it wasn’t to be called a portrait. The photographer engaged to take the shots, Lord Snowdon no less, thinks the word is too pompous. I had heard a lot about Lord Snowdon and much of what I’d heard took the form of warnings about his brusque manner.

As I sat in the office waiting to be called through to the studio, I heard him demand of his assistant, “What’s THIS one called? Where’s he from?” I had read about his tempestuous marriage with Princess Margaret and the troubled whirlwind life the esteemed 77-year old had led – and I must admit I was pretty nervous about meeting him.

Despite my cool glass of water, my throat was dry when I eventually got through to the studio. After the initial pleasantries we got into a great chat and he was a most charming and fascinating man. After the session I went back through to the dressing room as Anthony BB6 arrived. It’s nearly two years since we saw one another and it was good to catch up properly again.

I had never met Pete Bennett the quirky winner of BB7, but he’s every bit the genuine guy he appeared on the telly. And the scary thing is, Pete was born the same year Channel 4 was launched.

It looks like Becks might be living with his mother in law soon. After two of Posh’s nannies left the family soon after the move to Los Angeles, the ex Spice Girl has called on her mother to come and look after the little Beckses stateside. No doubt she’ll be chuffed, but I wonder what the Golden Boy will think.

Having grown up with Lee Majors playing Colt Seevers the stunt double, I realise that not every screen star plays every part of every scene. Stuntmen are drafted in to do the scary bits and body doubles repeat the tedious parts. But I heard this week that Cate Blanchette had a ‘bottom double’ for a scene in her latest film. Talk about a bum deal.

I know I’m a sentimentalist, but when I read that Emu is to make a telly comeback I was grinning from ear to ear. I used to love Rod Hull’s programme and I remember the stuffed bird attacking Parky during an interview in the 1970s. I even got an arm-puppet version of the big blue bird from Santa one year!

Travelling on a day that there’s footie supporters on the same route as you can be a hit or a miss. High spirits on the way to a match can be great, but the dejected air when your team has lost means a poor trip home – for the support as well as innocent travellers! I was at Heathrow on Thursday when a fair amount of the Tartan Army cheerily burst into the departure lounge – and what an atmosphere! Kincorth’s “Sons of Wallace” (Rambo, Nodge and Edser amongst them) were part of the merry band, piping, drumming and singing. And they were applauded by our southern neighbours. Polite or scared? YOU decide!

That's a nice picture - lots of lovely greenery, sunshine, and 3 people who I spent a fair bit of time watching on t.v. :D
