DEREK was a different Big Brother housemate in so many ways: older, wiser, already wealthy and with an apparent understanding of the press. All of which begs the question - why appoint Neil and Christine Hamilton as media advisers?

The ex-MP for Tatton and his wife have been friends with Derek for over twenty years, and he has now appointed the couple to handle his media enquiries.

Christine Hamilton, who has appeared in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, said: "He wants to do serious things and has been approached by a major TV company to do a programme on the Tory leadership."

But Christine poured cold water on the suggestion that Derek would stand for election as a Member Of Parliament.

Ah, the Hamiltons. The most outrageous double act since Hinge and Bracket. @^@

When it says "handle his media enquiries" does that really mean "answer his phone for him"? Coz surely he has a housekeeper that can do that.

He wowed Big Brother fans with his witticisms and intelligence, he annoyed Science, who called him the Dark Deceiver, and he loved belting out a showtune or two with Kinga and Lesley. But what's next for Big Brother's Derek Laud?

We caught up with the dapper gent at the launch party for the official Big Brother book last week, where he told us he was, "busy, busy, busy, busy."

But busy doing what?

"Writing and working on my children's books," Derek told us, before revealing he's written six in total, and they are about "all sorts of different things."

Derek admitted he'd also been doing loads of interviews and personal appearances as well as catching up with friends, including Chris Eubank and Neil and Christine Hamilton.

But what we all want to know is, does Derek have any political aspirations?

"Well, it's summer so the political scene is very quiet at the moment," Del told us, "and I'm busy doing other things."

Hmm, doesn't sound like he'll be hot footing it to Downing Street any time soon...

it would be good to see him in politics, or at least giving it a go.
