the whole thing fascinates me...( maybe why i study media) the reason why big brother has been such a sucsess is because so many of us watch it. we decied on what the producers want us to see these peoples personalities. they have no idea what is being shown to the public. imagin going in to a room one person and when u come out you are being told by people you have never met that you are another. the press bulid them up and as soon as the hype is over they are there to knock them down..
i think they they should earn from this..
And after all it is what has brought us and kept us longstanding members of bbfans..
aarrr feel better now ::lol::
(sorry if there are lots of spelling mistakes, never said i was the best at spelling ::lol:: )

From the Sunday Telegraph TV Choice for Sunday reviews:

"Oh the irony. Piers Morgan's attack on z list imbeciles is delicious, if only because of the shameless hypocrisy of the journalists involved. The Sun's showbiz editor Victoria Newton sneers at Big Brother contestants while Morgan sniffs that the cast of Celebrity Love Island "aren't exactly the Rolling Stones". How controversial. It's a shame that the arguments within this show are as vapid as the celebrities it attempts to denounce."

They still had it as a choice of the day though!

^^^ Class!!
I've said it many times before, but I just love how all these programmes are put together - asking why all these "pointless" people are celebrities, and then they go and devote an hours airtime to discussing these very people, often including the views of those even more "pointless" than the subjects of the programme!

It's a lot to do with snobbery if you ask me. Every single "talentless" BB housemate has entertained me more than someone like Michael Gambon or one of his "talented" peers ever will do. If that makes me uncultured, then bothered, lol!

Loving Kate on that programme though!

Schmelebrity jounalists would do well to take a step back and say to themselves, "Wait a minute - isn't it OUR fault...?"

I thought I did a very damning slagging of it in "TVRadioandfilms", but I haven't watched, and shouldn't really comment

I didn't see this show, due to being one number away from one thousand pounds in the bingo (spit) but my take on the celebrity thing is thus. Coz I KNOW you have all been waiting ::lol::

Before the tabloids took control, people were celebrities because of the talents they had. D.Beckham would have been a justifiable celebrity because hes a talented boy. For all the mick taken, Victoria can sing ok, but she doesnt have the voice of say a Carey or an Aguilera, something unique that identifies her. She knows that, and thats why she's tried so bloody hard to build the Beckham brand, because without it, she would quickly become Jordan.

I dont mind US making people famous, as long as theres good reason for it. I dont like the fact that we are forcefed who to like and who not to like, I prefer to use my own mind to make decisions and not have them told to me.

I dont know if any of you read the Holy Moly mailout this week, but there was a story on it about an unnamed celeb, but it was patently obvious who they were talking about even though they didn't name her, coz they mentioned a wedding, a child in hospital with a "mysterious illness" and the fact that the woman in question put the child in hospital, the nursing staff think the child is in reasonable health and the mother has apparently only visited three times since she put him there, bringing a camera crew along each time.

IF this rumour is true, then I worry for the sorts of celebrities that are being turned out for our amusement. That person therefore mentioned has no real strings to their bow as far as a talent goes, but fair play, has gone off the back of the tabloid frenzy and used it to the best ends for themselves, so maybe her talent is media manipulation and I'm underestimating her. The best businesses are made from a niche market.

I just think its gone too far. I like the fact that we have people that are seen as high achievers and the best at what they do (see Kelly Holmes) and we all have a strength that we must find and make use of, but I think that giving the message to young people that you can get rich and famous very easily simply by manipulation of the masses is hugely wrong and shouldn't be encouraged. Its no wonder we are running out of plumbers and tradesmen when everyone grows up wanting to be on Pop Idol.

We take peoples dreams and fantasies, offer them the opportunity to fulfil them and then take great pleasure in destroying them without a second thought. I don't like being party to that simply by the fact that I have to live in a country that supports that train of thought openly and without concern for the people involved.

Good post Mrs Minxington. I shouldn't think you'll find many who disagree.

Caught it this morning-I'm sure it's all been said. What the programme said we all know-especially on this board.
The poll must have been as conducted as it was so silly-Tony Blair/David Beckham and Jade being even more pointless than all the BB contestants(incl Cameron at 9).
I thought Kate came out of it extremely well-being quite unaffected and polite in that interview which was the highlight of the prog for me-Piers just couldn't help liking her which is usual for people who meet her.Jade was OK as well although a wee bit arrogant I thought.

I agree with you about Kate. She did everything the Piers asked (No Publicity and stayed the 2 weeks) which impressed him. I was sorry they did not show the Edinburgh gig but I have heard it went really well.

I thought is was funny when Piers called Jade the most Famous BB Loser. She was laughing but was appauled by this and kept repeating "Famous BB Loser". When he asked her what she had actually won she thought about it and cracked up laughing shouting "nothing".

It's true though, isn't it - and I think Jade realises that. Like Jon Tickle once said (approximately), sometimes there is the winner on the night and then there is the 'real' winner.

If 'cashing in' constitutes being the 'real winner' then I'd say Jade has BB3 in the bag.

There are lots of ways to identify or label a 'real winner' of course, so there will never be total agreement on that. Kate might be the 'real winner' because a) she actually WAS the winner or b) because she's good to look at or c) she's happy in her line of work, or a combination of those and other factors.

A: There is no disputing the FACT that Kate was the winner of BB3. If the losers from BB3 get to make money and do tv shows good luck to them, they might have a healthy bank balance but they will never have the winner title.

Indeed, Madeline, exactly right. But you know how people are when it comes to claiming 'real winner' status.

I quite enjoyed this programme last night

I think Kate came over well, cos she knew Piers was trying to take the piss, out of her at first, so she was indulging him and showing that she can laugh at herself and not take her *celeb* status too serious, but at the same time, when she has to be professional she can be.

Bless Becki, she was having a go with her hat and guitar, fair play to her having the bottle to take part

As for Jade, she can have people like piers and others (me included) take the rise out of her,and laugh AT her, but shes the one who goes home to her million quid bank account, so who really has the last laugh
