eastbourne today

BIG Brother runner-up Eugene Sully has paid his first return visit to Eastbourne following the end of the reality TV show.

Eugene, a volunteer helper at Radio DGH before he entered the house, says he plans to continue working with the hospital radio station.
He also praised the work of his fellow volunteers in getting patients at the DGH back on their feet through music and entertainment.
The reality show contestant toured the wards to meet patients and talk to them about Radio DGH.
Eugene will be working alongside the station's other engineers as it gears up for its next stage in development — a fully automated music playout system.
'It's the next step for the station,' explained Eugene. 'It will allow the station to sound like a hospital radio station 24 hours a day unlike now.
'When we're not on air at the moment we broadcast Capital Gold. But that will be a thing of the past when the computer comes online.'
The Friends of Eastbourne Hospitals has already donated the money for the computer system, which the station's committee is obviously very grateful for.
Eugene has been involved with the hospital radio station since 1998, aiding them following their complete studio refit.
The station, run by volunteers, broadcasts programmes to patients for more than 50 hours a week.
'I haven't been down to Eastbourne since getting out of the house but it's a lovely town,' said Eugene.
'I used to come down quite a lot to the station but also to visit friends.
'Hospital and student radio is an excellent way to get into the profession. It gives you experience and contacts and is a lot of fun.
'I hope to continue doing radio but also get in to TV. I've already done stuff for a Channel 4 programme, Blue Peter, Top of the Pops and BBC3 news.
'It's exciting so I want to do more.'

Phil Moon, the station's vice chairman, said, 'I'm pleased to say that his success within the Big Brother house hasn't changed him.
'We are extremely happy that he did so well on the show and are delighted that he'll continue to help us.'

Radio DGH is always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested should contact Matt Isted, the programme controller on 435748.
