Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton is used to brightening up the lives of his adoring fans.
Now, he has come home to lighten up life for millions of shoppers by switching on the Christmas lights display at the Gateshead MetroCentre.
Anthony, of Consett, County Durham, wowed the crowds with his famous disco dance moves before flicking the switch in Exhibition Square last night.
He said: "Switching on the Christmas lights is the latest amazing thing I've done this year.
"It was absolutely fabulous. I always get an extra special reception when I come back to the North East and I hope everyone in the region has a brilliant Christmas."
Anthony's fans turned out in force. Gemma Smith, 17, of Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, said: "I voted for Anthony all the way through Big Brother and was so happy when he won.
"When I found out he was going to be here, I knew that I wanted to come along and see him.
"I think he's a great dancer and it's brilliant to have someone from the region turning on the lights."
Nicola Atkinson, 19, of Heaton, Newcastle, said: "It feels a bit early to be switching on Christmas lights but I suppose it gets you in the mood for the holidays.
"I watched Big Brother all the way through and definitely wanted him to win because he was from round here."
Anthony, 23, must have been prepared for a warm welcome, having been roared on by thousands when he took part in reality soccer show the Match at St James' Park.
He got the biggest cheers of the day during the game, which saw a team of celebs go head-to-head with a legends side.
And he paid-back all their support with a man-of-the-match performance in front of the sell-out crowd.
