BB6 ex housemate Makosi Musambasi heard today she has been given refugee status and will be allowed to remain in the UK.

The ruling was made by the central London asylum and immigration tribunal on Thursday the 17th of November 2005. 25-year-old Makosi had faced deportation after she had left her job as a cardiac nurse to appear in Big Brother 6.

Makosi wins battle to remain in UK

Big Brother contestant Makosi Musambasi has won her battle to stay in Britain as a refugee.

Her sexy antics in the television game show means it is now unsafe for her to return to her native Zimbabwe where she could face vicious hate mobs, the Central London Asylum and Immigration tribunal ruled.

A relative of dictator Robert Mugabe is a former lover.

The 25-year-old resigned as a cardiac nurse at High Wycombe Hospital, Buckinghamshire, to go on Big Brother, breaching the rules of her work visa.

The Home Office gave her notice to quit in August because she was allowed to stay as long as she worked as a nurse.

Makosi, who came to Britain in 1998, hurriedly made an asylum application which was rejected earlier this month.

Tribunal chairman Francis Pinkerton said: "She is in a different situation now than she was some seven months ago before appearing on Big Brother.

"Before that she had been to Zimbabwe on a number of occasions and presumably encountered no problems.

"The appearance on the show has changed things a great deal.

"Her evidence is that she now does fear to go back to Zimbabwe. She is therefore a failed asylum seeker and we find that because she is an involuntary returnee, she is a refugee under the 1951 convention and therefore we allow her appeal on that basis." dailysnack

Zimbabwean Big Brother star Makosi Musambasi has won her battle to stay in the UK as a refugee.

The ruling was made by the central London asylum and immigration tribunal on Thursday.

The 25-year-old had her working visa curtailed and faced deportation after she left her job as a cardiac nurse to appear on the C4 reality show.

Ms Musambasi, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, came third in the show behind Anthony Hutton and Eugene Sully.

The Home Office gave the former nurse notice to quit the UK in August since she was allowed to stay only as long as she worked as a nurse.

I dont like her at all, but it doesent mean I want to see her in danger.

If after considering all the evidence they have decided she would be in danger, then its right that she should be allowed to stay.

What happens after the 5 years are up?

Also, apparently she was on C4 news this evening. Did anyone see it?

Oh, rather then being the "utter disgrace" some will say, this has to be one of the funniest stories of the year ::lol::

The court has actually told Makosi, she can only work as a nurse in this country. Mad Maks response to this in interviews, is to say "Presenting is like nursing, you soothe people through agonies of life" ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

I can't wait for the next court-case where she tries to make that stand-up ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::

I didnt like her by the end of BB, but have to agree it wouldn't be right to have sent her back to a bunch of nutters in her old country. I'm sure most people here in this country, would feel guity as hell, if she had have gone back and something nasty had happened to her :-? I hope she does okay myself now ()^ It might change her life for the better, couldn't have been nice wondering what was going to happen to herself.

South East firm Penningtons has won an appeal to allow reality TV contestant Makosi Musambasi to stay in the UK as a refugee.
Zimabawean Musambasi had her working visa curtailed and was faced with deportation after she appeared on Big Brother 6 in the summer. Her appearance on the show meant she had to give up her job as a cardiac nurse.

Her appeal centred on the fact that the current situation in Zimababwe would make it extremely dangerous for her to return to the country. Philip Barth, who led the case for Penningtons told The Lawyer: “This case has to be considered in light of what is happening in Zimbabwe and not on Musambasi’s celebrity.”

In a statement Barth said: “We have argued throughout that Musambasi 's case for international protection was a strong one and are disappointed that the Secretary of State rejected our arguments at a time when the situation on the ground in Zimbabwe was well known.”

London - A Zimbabwean woman whose appearance on a reality television show caused a storm of protest in her home country won her battle to stay in Britain on Thursday after being threatened with deportation.

The British government gave Makosi Musambasi notice to return to Zimbabwe in August for breaching the conditions of her working visa by resigning from her job as a cardiac nurse to appear on the Big Brother programme.

The 25-year-old had a last-ditch asylum application rejected but she appealed to the Central London Asylum and Immigration tribunal which overturned the ruling on Thursday.

The panel said her sexual antics on the gameshow - where hidden cameras in a house show track contestants' every move - meant it was now unsafe for her return to Zimbabwe, where she could face vicious hate mobs.

So....she is going to stay...but has to work only as a 'Nurse'.

Nurse Makosi... Seriously, I would not want to be 'soothed' by her.

When does her reinstated visa run out? (if that is indeed the rights of the matter...)

The way Zimbabwe is going at the moment I doubt if she will ever go back there. When Mugabe expires ( he has said he will last another 20 years) there will be mass problems as the various factions try to get a slice of the action.

One thing Makosi was correct about, she is hated because of the way she carried on and some of the forums have advocated pretty extreme measures against her :-?

I remember on more then one occassion in the bb6 house Makosi stating in her miss high and mighty voice how she wasn't British. She was very proud of her Zimbabwean nationality. I guess she will have to get used to living in one of the best Countries in the world and forgo any thoughts of going back to her homeland for at least 40 years......

They will never send her back.

But if its true that she is hated, then surely her family there are in danger. Will they be coming over?

Makosi did The 5-minute interview in todays Independent newspaper. Sorry there is no link to the artical:

When I found out I’d won my case to stay in the UK I felt…
Fantastic. I’m thrilled. I was quite surprised actually because I thought with my celebrity status they might use me as an example. I love it here; it’s like a second home to me.

If I wasn’t talking to you right now I’d be……

On some TV news programme. I’ve done TV this morning and I’m doing a couple of papers and I’m looking at a lot of proposals while were in the pipeline and I can now puree.

A phrase I use far too often is……

“Luvy” and “check me out”. When I was told I could stay I said “check me out” and the judge smiled.

I wish people would take more notice of….

My brains. In most interviews I’ve done-though I’ve been on two political channels – they hint at taking my top off and getting my tits out. I want people to know I have brains. To be a cardiac nurse you have to have brains. Most people think News Of The World, but I do have a brain.

The most surprising thing that ever happened to me was…….

Getting onto a show like BB. They auditioned 25,000 people so that was shocking beyond surprise.

I’m not a politician but….

I’d probable privatize the NHS. It’s important for the people to have the service ready for them, but the only reason nurses are not paid so much money is because the NHS is owned by the Government. If it were privatized there would be enough money to pay them.
