Former Big Brother contestant Derek Laud has condemned a decision to allow fellow housemate Makosi Musambasi to stay in the UK as "reprehensible".

The Zimbabwean won her battle to stay in the UK as a refugee at an asylum and immigration tribunal on Thursday.

The 25-year-old faced deportation after quitting her job as a nurse to appear on the Channel 4 reality show.

But Mr Laud, who was speaking on the BBC's Question Time, accused Ms Musambasi of being "calculating".

A spokesman for Ms Musambasi said he had not seen Thursday evening's programme and could not comment.

Mr Laud, a Conservative party speechwriter, said: "It's very clear to me that she had every intention of going into the Big Brother house to stay in the country.
"She came to the UK as a nurse, she could have left the Big Brother house to work as a nurse again and she has decided she doesn't want to."

Intimate antics

On learning of the deportation threat when she left Big Brother in August, Ms Musambasi, who came to Britain in 1998, made an asylum application which was rejected.

But the tribunal ruled that she could face violent confrontation if she returns to her native Zimbabwe, following her lewd behaviour on Big Brother earlier this summer.

Ms Musambasi's antics saw her getting intimate with winner Anthony Hutton in a hot tub and kissing many of her fellow contestants, including the women.

She told the tribunal she feared for her life should she be forced to return to Zimbabwe, where she claimed she had been branded a "lowlife lesbian".

Mr Laud added: "If there is real evidence, compelling evidence that Makosi's life would be in danger if she was returned, then of course I would be against that.

"But it seems to me an extraordinarily calculated thing for her to have done in order to stay and I just don't think that should be lost on any of us.

'Politics discussion'

"When I asked Makosi in the Big Brother house to discuss Zimbabwean politics, said she couldn't do that because to commit herself to any kind of view, would be prejudicial to her in the future.

"She obviously must have known too when she kissed another lady, that would be prejudicial to her returning."

The Home Office said it was "disappointed" by the ruling and may appeal.

However, the ruling ties in with an earlier and wider decision by the asylum appeals body which has effectively blocked deportations to Zimbabwe.

Ms Musambasi, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, came third in the show behind Anthony Hutton and Eugene Sully.

Yet he was best friends with her in the house, what a slimy contemptible, pathetic litttle man :D

The most calculating one is Derek, jumping on the anti-immigrant vote, despite his alliances in the past
