LOUISE GRAY

FORGET the glorious glens, the majestic mountains and Loch Ness. The best way to attract tourists to Scotland is with our handsome men, according to the country's official tourism agency.

VisitScotland is so confident of the allure of the Caledonian male, preferably in a kilt, it has compiled an online list of the country's 20 most eligible bachelors in an attempt to lure visitors to the country.

Scotland is already famed as a top place to marry but now it seems it is the place to find a potential groom. Fuelled by "kilt- ripper" novels in the US and dramas such as Monarch of the Glen, it seems demand for Scottish men has never been higher.

Now http://www.dateahotscot.com promises to give women around the world a glimpse of what is on offer.

The site lists Scotland's top single celebrities including the Big Brother winner Cameron Stout, Gaelic TV presenter Phil MacHugh, tour guide Craig Irving, and Atta Yaqub, who starred in the cross-cultural Romeo and Juliet story Ae Fond Kiss. There are also singletons from other walks of life, from Fife farmers to Edinburgh solicitors.

HUNKY men are the latest tactic to draw female visitors to Scotland - for a Highland fling.

Some of the country's most eligible bachelors are in a new tourism campaign - fronted by bagpiper Lorne Cousin, who toured with Madonna.

Denise Hill, of Visit Scotland, said: "Women the world over love Scottish men - the kilts, the accents, the sense of humour.

"We are setting out to exploit that very fact and to show that Scotland's beautiful landscapes aren't the only attraction on offer."

Their "Date a Hot Scot" website lists Scotland's top single men - including Gaelic TV presenter Phil MacHugh and 2003 Big Brother winner Cameron Stout - in a global campaign.

Lorne Cousin, who appeared with Madonna on her world tour in 2004, said: "It is a great honour to be representing the country in something like this.

"I just hope that I can do my bit for Scottish men."

Half a million single scots?

Where?!

To be fair, its Cameron and the other Scots I'm worried about -they'll be fighting them off with sticks.

Cameron, you're only 10th - is that because you didn't put a kilt on for the photoshoot?

If you bribe us enough, maybe we could all log in and vote for you. Mind you if all the Golden Rose contestants voted for you, you'd be way in the lead anyway.

Fabulous promotional idea though. Beats the straw chewing yokels of Somerset. When's the next plane??

Oh CT he was in a comedy a couple of years ago called The Book Group, in which he was still utterly gorgeous but was in a wheelchair for the role.

Ellie, it must have been for re-runs of the last series of Shameless which have been on this week, tho I have to say it's been rather odd watching this and lusting after a priest...
