I read an article in todays Telegraph pikey about helicopter parents who hothouse their kids, but it also said that normal parents were having to help their kids with course work as the helicopter parents were doing all the coursework, so if they didn't their kids wouldn't compare well. Surely examiners should be taught how to tell the difference.

I think that adults has to do all the time things that they don't actually love to do, but they do them because they'll have to do them, no matter did they hate them or not. So it's not about looking stupid at all if I do something I don't like to do. That's why my answer has to be yes, I would.
