NEXT year's Big Brother hopefuls can expect to undergo a markedly different ordeal from the video-taped auditions that have taken place previously.

Prospective housemates in each state will have to take part in an Australian Idol-style cattle call, a Channel Ten spokeswoman told Confidential yesterday.

The auditions – to be called The Hunt For A Housemate – will come to Sydney on January 24 at the University of Sydney.


"I am on the hunt for a new breed of housemate," Big Brother said last night.

The official Big Brother website http://www.bigbrother.ten.com.au will post full details of the audition process on Monday.

I guess it's a panic reaction after the last set of contestants for the most part got on well much like UK BB4 ,which if I remember correctly wasn't quite what the producers or the viewers were looking for. Which is the same UK BB did to give as the house of outrageous charactors which if some of them had been their normal selfs could have been ever worse .Remember some of the UK contestants claimed that normally they were louder ,more outrageous ,and seeking to be the centre of attention but were in fact quite the opposite because of the nature of the others being similar to their own. This only goes to show that you need a broad mix if you want to get the true character out in the open.

My choice would be more normal types of people that are easier to relate to rather than create a potential freak show. Let's hope the OZ show doesn't finish up down this way
