Big Brother housemates 'more worldly'

BIG Brother producers have given the first hint as to what fans can expect from the show's seventh season, starting with "more worldly" contestants in the human fishbowl.

The big daddy of reality TV returns next month with a new house built on its usual site at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.

The show will be under its closest scrutiny to date after last year's "turkey slapping" incident saw calls from politicians, including Prime Minister John Howard, and lobby groups for the show to be banned and the risque Big Brother Uncut program pulled off the air mid-season.

But it's full steam ahead again say producers with, as there are every season, a number of twists designed to test the housemates' mettle and keep viewers tuning in.

Big Brother cleans up its house

NO more slappers, an environment-friendly space, more worldly wise contestants and a neat freak will make up Big Brother's 2007 house.

And the Federal Government is threatening to gatecrash the three-month Gold Coast party, according to the show's executive producer Kris Noble.

Big Brother clamps down on shower frolics

BIG Brother's infamous shower scenes may be in short supply when BB7 begins on TV this month.

Because of Queensland's worsening drought, both housemates and producers will be under scrutiny.
Level 5 water restrictions begin this week, affecting the Gold Coast house at Dreamworld where the reality show is filmed.

The housemates have been chronic water wasters, often frolicking in the pool and spa and taking countless showers.

But it's been rumoured the BB7 housemates will be restricted to two buckets of water each a week. Water watchdogs will keep a close eye on the house.

You're not alone. : )

Gretel is on Rove Live next week, let's expect some glimpses of the new house to be shown.

Australian Big Brother

Health experts will closely study how a housemate in the Australian Big Brother series suffering mild obsessive compulsive disorder is treated when the new series begins later this month.

Producers have revealed one of the contestants has the disorder but have not indicated how the person and their disorder will be portrayed.

Clinical psychologist Rocco Crino, of the Anxiety Disorder Alliance, said the person should not be exploited by the program or teased.

"If it is mild OCD and there are no problems for the individual then that's fine," he said yesterday.

"It may be that the condition is not obvious, we'll have to have a good look at it. It will really depend on how the programme will portray and treats the person."

Big Brother presenter Gretel Killeen said she was surprised the unknown housemate's condition had been revealed, but said the show always tried to reflect society.

"I guess it's to show diversity and try and represent society to some degree because the house is a microcosm," she said yesterday.

"But I need to find out more about this obsessive compulsive disorder before the show starts.

"I don't know what the parameters are because I know a lot of people who would refer to themselves as that, but have not been diagnosed." waveguide

Australian "Big Brother" Welcomes OCD Housemate

Gold Coast, Australia (AHN) - Australia's Network Ten's "Big Brother" reality program will be introducing a housemate with an anxiety disorder when the latest season premieres next month.

Producers have revealed that one new housemate suffers from a mild case of obsessive compulsive disorder. The confirmation of the housemate's illness has sparked concern over how such a person will be portrayed on the controversial reality show.

BB's secret: there's no cash

CONTESTANTS diving into the Big Brother fishbowl in hope of landing the million-dollar prize pool will be hit with a rude slap - and it's worse than a turkey.

As the Channel 10 reality TV juggernaut prepares to launch its seventh season on Sunday night, the program's producers yesterday announced that, for the first time, there will not be a cash prize for this year's winner.

In addition to throwing away the cash, there will not be any cars given to the housemates on their exit from the compound at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.

"We are launching series seven with no prize money for the winner," executive producer Tim Toni said yesterday.

"It's simply to keep ahead of the game with the housemates."

The selected contestants for the program flew to the Gold Coast yesterday and are now in lockdown, unaware of the tightened rules - and wallets - of the well-played reality game.

No Cash For Aussie Big Brother

As the seventh series of Big Brother prepares to launch in Australia, producers had a surprise for contestants - there will be no cash prize this year.

Executive producer Tim Toni said: "We are launching series seven with no prize money for the winner.

"It's simply to keep ahead of the game with the housemates."

The selected contestants for the programme, which starts on Sunday, flew to the Gold Coast yesterday and are now in lockdown, unaware of the removal of the cash prize

In another "Australian first", viewers will be able to choose two additional housemates from a secondary group who will assemble next to the selected contestants during Sunday's season premiere.

"It will enable viewers to control the game - it will be the biggest number of housemates ever assembled on stage," the spokesman said.

In previous years, contestants were each given a car as they left the Big Brother compound - this year they won't.

Get ready for a massive Big Brother orgy

Quick, put your turkeys to bed and out of harms way. Some place where impressionable young minds can’t get hold of them and ask, Daddy, what are these for?

Why should we lock up our turkeys? Well the Ten Network starts Big Brother 2007 next week with over 17 hours of broadcasts in what can only be described as an orgy of overkill.

Ten has axed its late night Uncut, AO versions of BB in favour of two basic shows a night: the 7 pm broadcast of 30 minutes or an hour and the up late broadcast of 90 minutes to two hours from 10.30 or 11.15 Monday to Friday. There will be a live broadcast for two hours each Friday night from 7.30 to 9.30 pm when the housemates this time have to perform 'tasks' rather then just 'games'.

BB passes on the bucks

ANYONE planning to get rich quick from a stint on Big Brother, think again. Producers of the show have confirmed that this year there's no prize money. Yep, not a buck.

Big Brother answer is quiz money

BIG Brother will resemble a game show for its seventh series this year - but producers are promising none of the games will involve turkey-slapping.

The series, which begins on Sunday, had this time promised to ditch the cash, cars and other rewards.

However, it can be revealed that reality TV show contestants will be vying for prizes during the series. Previously participants have played for a pre-determined cash pool.

Former MP's son makes Big Brother shortlist

THE son of former Adelaide MP Joe Scalzi is on the shortlist to enter the Big Brother house when the Channel 10 reality TV series returns tomorrow.

Joel Scalzi is in lockdown in Queensland as he awaits news on whether he will be picked.
And former Adelaide model Emma Cornell also may be on the shortlist of 18, with 12 to enter the house.

Inside Big Brother

Green issues will be a theme this year, but it's business as usual for the reality soap

"I NEED to know where the splinters are, if the air-conditioning works, and whether they can see the cameras," Howard Parker, Big Brother's long-time production executive, is whispering in the dark.

I am maybe 15cm from a group of partially dressed young men and women, staring at them through the famous one-sided mirrored glass. I feel like a peepologist, a slave to virtual reality. They are talking animatedly, one girl tugging at her bra, a boy idly gargling Coke.

I'm voyeuristically part of the full-scale rehearsals for this year's Big Brother, a group of what Parker calls trusted friends occupying the house for several days to allow the production team to fine tune its coverage, before the actual contestants arrive.
