Big Brother 6 / Big Brother 6
Date: Aug 01, 2005 - 03:55 PM
RealityReal

Viewers can substantially impact the course of the show via text messaging and voting through CBS.com. Downloadable activities available beginning August 4, including ring tones and special wallpapers featuring Big Brother contestants.

Big Brother 6 will enter the world of wireless communications by incorporating text messaging and downloadable activities in conjunction with the reality series in the second largest wireless on-TV activity in the United States after Fox's "American Idol" wireless voting.

Beginning August 4, host Julie Chen introduces "America's Choice" to wireless subscribers, a key element of the episode that will enable viewers to vote via cell phone text messaging in order to influence the course of the game. In addition to text messaging, The Big Brother audience will also be given the opportunity to cast their vote on CBS.com.

Beyond cross-carrier text message voting, applications for download will also be available, such as wallpapers of their favorite Big Brother houseguest, especially photographed for the wireless world.

"This is the natural evolution for a show that already features so much viewer interactivity," said Larry Kramer, President, CBS Digital Media. "Text messaging will bring the 'Big Brother' experience to living rooms across America, allowing even greater participation from the viewing public. It's an organic extension of the 'Big Brother' phenomenon, and it will be incorporated seamlessly into the show."

"Big Brother is a show that has connected with a huge segment of the population that is not only open to this kind of participation, but expects it," said Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group. "The interactive features that we are adding give the viewers an opportunity to become more invested in the program, in addition to expanding the entertainment value of the show. We're committed to finding new ways to bring our viewers into our programming beyond just watching, and we think this is a tremendous start."

Votes via text messaging will be tabulated during a specified time window following the episode broadcast.

At certain times, a Big Brother ring tone will be offered to the public to download for $1.99 on certain carriers directly from the TV screen. Voters will also be invited to join a "CBS Mobile Team" to receive additional mobile/wireless opportunities in the future if they opt in through text messaging.

Kaysar Ridha, one of the most popular HouseGuests ever cast on the CBS reality show series, got his walking papers on last night's live eviction show but little does he know he'll likely be returning in a week's time to start playing the 'Big Brother' game once again due to a timely twist.

Cast out by a vote of seven to one, 'King' Kaysar will be remembered for flipping the entire game upside down and touching off a bitter civil war between The Outcast and Disciples Alliances in the 'Big Brother' house during his reign as Head of Household.

The practicing Muslim who entered the house to see if his beliefs could withstand the pressures and temptations of the reality show, is one of three evicted players who have the opportunity to re-enter the game next Thursday. Host Julie Chen made the announcement when she revealed the return of the 'America's Choice' poll to the series. Unlike on 'Big Brother 3' when southern belle Amy Crews won a special competition to return, the viewers will be deciding this time around who gets that opportunity by voting using text messaging on their cell phones or casting their ballots on the official 'Big Brother 6' site. Fans will only be able to choose between Michael Donnellan, Eric Littmann or Kaysar Ridha as Ashlea Evans decided not to be sequestered and therefore forfeited her chances of a return.

Chen made it known that the booted players have been isolated in separate locations and have not had access to the Internet or television since leaving the house. When the twist was told to the HouseGuests, The Disciples Alliance cheered for Eric while The Outcasts shouted Kaysar's name.

In his post-eviction interview with Chen, Kaysar agreed that he was eliminated from the competition because he was the biggest strategic threat and that he achieved his goal of "changing the balance of power" in the house.

"I leave the house with no regrets and whatever I did was what I wanted to happen," said Kaysar.

Although not aware of the twist at the time, Kaysar told Chen he would play the game differently if he had the chance to come back.

"If I could go back to the house, I would definitely not give away all of my secrets and not show all of my cards and how dangerous I am," he said.

While Michael, Eric and Ashlea were shown goodbye messages when they were voted out, Kaysar was not.

The twist coupled with Howie Gordon's victory in the HOH Competition virtually assures that the Disciples Alliance of April, Ivette, Beau and Maggie will be sent packing unless there's a major shift in alliances. Gordon won a buzz-in-an-answer-and-eliminate-another-player challenge to be the new Head Of Household. Howie wore Kaysar's FBI baseball cap and his T-Shirt during the competition. Howie dedicated the win to Kaysar by shouting out "What up Kaysar!" a catch-phase affectionately given to him by the Outcast Alliance.

Howie's nominations for eviction will be made known on Saturday's 'Big Brother 6' broadcast.

Howie Makes Possibly The Dumbest Move In Big Brother History

Big Brother fans everywhere let out a collective moan as Howie Gordon utilized his power as head of household to toss the game away. His secret partner Rachel Plencner probably summed it up best when she said, “I seriously didn’t think he was going to do something that dumb.” Whether fans were for or against Howie and his alliance, it was just painful to watch seomeone make such a crucial error in playing the game.

After the brilliant strategic move pulled off by Kaysar, Howie and Rachel were in prime position to be the final two. All Howie and Rachel needed to do was string James and Sarah along long enough to finish off the self-named “friendship” team. Then they could have teamed with Janelle (and Kaysar or Michael if one of them returns) and finished off James and Sarah.

But the “friendship” team manages to work their magic on Howie and convince him that the entire house will be a less divided place if he nominates James and Sarah. What does the “friendship” team promise Howie for putting up James and Sarah? They guarantee him two weeks of safety. In fact, not even the entire “friendship” team makes the promise, as Maggie points out that she will honor the deal but can’t guarantee what other members of the “friendship” will do. Somehow, Howie thought this was a good deal.

Now, it’s not that James didn’t deserve to be nominated. He obviously will switch sides at the drop of a hat if it will keep him in the competition longer, but he was also the biggest target of the “friendship.” As long as James was in the house, Howie and Rachel were assured of not being the primary target. Howie has just helped the “friendship” get one step closer to eliminating him by nominating two members of his own alliance.

Howie has taken what was an alliance of five and turned it into an alliance of three. Howie has handed the numbers advantage over to the “friendship.” If James winds up going, then Howie should consider himself and Rachel to be the primary targets of the “friendship.” The “friendship” will likely not consider Sarah a threat and they will want to take out the last surviving partner team on the opposition. Howie made his decision based on anger over James instead of making the best move for his team.

AMERICA'S CHOICE VOTING ON BIG BROTHER 6 LEADS TO A RECORD BREAKING WEEKEND FOR CBS.COM WITH OVER 57 MILLION PAGEVIEWS

AMERICA'S CHOICE VOTING ON BIG BROTHER 6 LEADS TO A RECORD BREAKING WEEKEND FOR CBS.COM WITH OVER 57 MILLION PAGEVIEWS

On Friday, August 8, CBS.com recorded its highest traffic day in 2005 with almost 21 million pageviews. "The Big Brother 6" site also had record breaking traffic and averaged 17 million pageviews per day over the weekend.
This was due specifically, to the America's Choice poll that was announced on "Big Brother 6" on Thursday night's edition of the reality series.
Viewers currently have the ability to decide which of the house guests who have already been evicted should go back into the house by casting their vote online on CBS.com or via text message.
The winner will be announced on BIG BROTHER 6, to be broadcast live Thursday, August 11 (8:00 PM/live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Following the live eviction on Thursday evening's show, the latest evicted houseguest will be interviewed on Friday, August 12 on the CBS.com online talk show "Housecalls" (1pm ET/10 am PT) hosted by "Big Brother" alums Gretchen Massey and Marcellas Reynolds.
For the first time this season, viewers will be able to speak directly with this week's evicted houseguest by calling into "Housecalls" at (323) CBS-1000.

As all Big Brother fans know, CBS has announced that viewers will be able to vote back in a former Big Brother 6 houseguest in the America’s Choice poll. The houseguest with the largest number of votes will re-enter the Big Brother house during the Thursday, August 11 episode. However, there has been no information on when during that episode the houseguest will return.

Will the houseguest return before or after the elimination vote? Thanks to Howie, the “friendship” team appears to have the numbers to control their own destiny. However, if a houseguest returns before the elimination vote, then he will probably be able to vote in the elimination. This could completely change the outcome of the vote.

Howie nominated Sarah and James, and that leaves five people eligible to vote on the “friendship” team and two people eligible to vote on the alliance that Kaysar built (as head of household, Howie only votes in a tiebreaker). If James or Sarah wins the power of veto and one of them gets off the block, then Howie will likely put up a member of the “friendship” team in their place. The “friendship” team will still have four eligible voters though and be able to protect their nominated member.

However, if Kaysar or Michael re-enters the house before the eviction vote, then it’s possible that the alliance that Kaysar built could have four votes on their side. What if Kaysar or Michael talks some sense into Howie and points out that they need James and Sarah to keep an advantage in numbers over the “friendship” team? If Janelle, Rachel, Sarah or James, and Kaysar or Michael all vote one way then they will have four votes against the “friendship” alliances four votes. Howie would have to cast the tie-breaking vote. Howie could then eliminate a member of the “friendship” team and reverse the mistake he made and insure his alliance has the numbers advantage.

Fourteen hours later and 'Big Brother 6' finally has a new Head of Household. The 'Pressure Cooker' endurance challenge which began on last night's live eviction episode continued this morning until Jennifer Vasquez, the 27-year-old arena football league dancer from Texas, bested Kaysar Ridha, the 24-year-old graphics designer from California on the live 24/7 Internet feeds from the 'Big Brother 6' house. Kaysar eventually relented and handed the win to Jennifer. Jennifer now has the power to nominate two HouseGuests for eviction.

In the 'Pressure Cooker' endurance challenge, the HouseGuests have to stand in a greenhouse and hold down a button and not let go. In order to exit the greenhouse, three people must let go of their buttons. As an added twist, in the middle of the room were mystery boxes on a rotating floor. Once the HouseGuests were eliminated, they could open one box and share the contents with another HouseGuest or leave what was inside to torment the remaining players. Host Julie Chen opened the first box and let out some flies. Later when Beau Beasley and Janelle Pierzina were elimented, Beau won a martini bar and Janelle claimed a plasma screen television.

'Big Brother' fans are happy to know that familiar chants of "What up, Kaysar?" will be ringing throughout the house once again. Kaysar Ridha, one of the most popular HouseGuests ever to be cast on the reality series, was voted back into the house by North American viewers on the broadcast. Kaysar received 82 per cent of the popular vote, according to host Julie Chen. Chen reported that there were approximately 5 million votes.

After a week of sloppy game play and poorly thought out strategies which included Head of Household Howie nominating two of his own allies, Sarah Hrejsa, the 22-year-old retail manager and girlfriend of contestant James Rhine was evicted by a vote of 6 to 1. James was the only vote to keep Sarah in the house. Sarah was not surprised to be evicted as everyone was gunning for her beau.

"Oh, gosh. I don't doubt that I will be with him forever. I love him a lot and I've had a hard past. He has just been my hero. He is such a great person and I love him so much," Sarah told Chen of James. Sarah predicted that if James wins HOH, he would cause mass chaos in the house.

"I think he is a strong person. I am so proud of everything he has done. I really hope he wins this next HOH contest. It is going to be hysterical watching him stir up the house. I know he can be a mean guy. You might not like what you see this week," said Sarah.

Besides the usual lies and strategies, secrets are part of the new season of "Big Brother." Don't worry: You'll still be in the know.

Every Friday, The Early Show brings you a scene from the "Big Brother" house that you won't be able to see in primetime. And, of course, the evicted houseguest will share theories about what caused his or her ouster.

Sarah Hrejsa, one of the "Big Brother" lovebirds has flown the coop. She was in the house with her boyfriend James, an alliance that led to her downfall. She not only said goodbye to the game, but she also left her true love behind.

Visit CBSNews.com at noon ET to check out Hrejsa's interview and some secret scenes no seen in primetime.

While loyalty is a big part of this game, "Big Brother" host and co-anchor Julie Chen is told these relationships won't last a New York minute.

With a record 47 cameras and 76 microphones, the backstabbing and back scratching will not go unnoticed. Click on the links in red below for more secrets and strategies uncovered:

Aug. 5:
Secret: While he was still in the house, Ridha won a special treat, a hookah from home. Before you know it, he gathered his fellow housemates, and things started really smoking! Note: smoking hookah is perfectly legal.

Evicted Houseguest: After being in a position of power the week before, the tables were turned and Kaysar Ridha was evicted this week from the "Big Brother" house.

July 29:
Secret: Sarah has a "heart-to-heart" with Kaysar. She is upset there's no one in the house she can trust. Apparently, the pressures are having a bigger impact on her than she expected.

Evicted Houseguest: Ironically enough, a firefighter was extinguished on "Big Brother 6." Eric Littmann started out as one of the game's strongest players. But he got burned by some of his former allies.

July 22:
Secret: Houseguests think they're living with only one gay person: Beau. But Beau has a friend in the house, Ivette, a waitress from Florida, who hasn't told the others she's gay, too.

Evicted Houseguest: After 19 short days in the "Big Brother" house, artist Michael Donnellan painted himself into a corner and faced eviction. Michael is a free man. He tells bout the twists and turns that landed him on the outside.

The 14 houseguests - the biggest cast ever - compete for up to $1,000,000, double the usual jackpot. They are seven couples, each made up of friends, partners or co-workers.

“Big Brother 6” has been known as the “Summer of Secrets.” From the secret alliances (every houseguest entered the game with a secret partner) to the house’s secret rooms (an entire bedroom was hidden behind a wall), there have been plenty of surprising moments.

Some things have stayed blissfully the same. Host Julie Chen is still as incompetent as ever, conducting awkward interviews with the houseguests and asking them relevant and insightful questions that only a morning show journalist could ask (“What would you rather do, spend a week on PB & J, or a week of eating nothing but dessert?”).

But the most shocking secret turned out to be one that we could never have expected: Except for the setting, “Big Brother” has almost become “Survivor,” a human game of chess unfolding three nights a week and all day every day on the Internet.

“Big Brother” began as usual, with vapid personalities banding together in a clique and excluding others, as if walking through the door had turned them into middle schoolers again. Calling themselves “The Friendship,” the clique assumed that they’d just all hang out and tan themselves for three months, and they all but stopped playing the game. They cast off outsiders during the first two evictions, and The Friendship docked at a port as its passengers lounged in their bathing suits.

What they — and viewers, and the producers — could never have predicted was the effect a player named Kaysar would have. The Iraqi-born graphic designer from California was one of the first two up for eviction on week one, nominated only because he was different. But his introspective nature kept him on the top of the game mentally. For example, he was the first to figure out that everyone in the house was playing along with a secret partner (smartly, he didn’t buy the producers’ ridiculous insistence that his partnership was the only one).

Rest of the story .MSNBC

Jennifer pops zits, housemates beat the crap out of themselves with a stick, Sarah leaves and the annoying Kaysar returns
By: NUTS MCDOUGAL

Published: 8/16/2005

I have to admit, I’m starting to get annoyed with all the contestants on BIG BROTHER 6. Love the show. Devoted to it (except when CBS and TV screw me over big time – more on that later), but these people are grating so much on my nerves that I feel like they deserve to be trapped in that house – FOREVER.

Maybe BIG BROTHER is hell, or purgatory or a day spa. Who know the real truth. But let’s be honest, would you spend anytime with any of those people in any social situation whatsoever? Now, forget about the whole “oh, hell ya I would” thing, predicated on the sole fact that you want to be near a person you’ve watched on TV for the past couple of months. That doesn’t count. Put these people next to you on an every day level – no faux celebrity attachments involved – and yes, you would avoid them at all costs. Now maybe, just maybe, one or two of them would be acquaintances that you would be nice to but otherwise would avoid like the plague. And in the case of Jennifer, she wouldn’t even get near you because she’s a cheerleader and cheerleaders only hang out with their Stepford clones.

But you get the picture … prove me wrong, but I think you could have a more meaningful conversation and far more enjoyable time with Richard Hatch from Survivor -- even though you risk the chance of him hanging out with you in the nude – than any individual currently on BIG BROTHER 6.

Now, last Tuesday’s episode was pretty interesting, namely because everyone got to beat the crap out of a piñata. But here is where the faulty logic occurred in the exercise. You beat the crap out of your OWN piñata. Wouldn’t it have been more cathartic to beat the crap out of someone else’s piñata – even if the name was randomly drawn? Then again, maybe these folks hate themselves so much, beating a surrogate “them” with a stick might have actually felt good.

“Take that you stupid ass, signing me up for this show where I have to confront how stupid I am every day. Damn you. Die muther, Die.”

Okay … so that does make a whole lot of sense.

While I have to admit, I’ve been secretly rooting for Jennifer to win, only because she’s the least annoying of anyone on the show, my mind changed after she was popping pimples off of Howie’s back last week. I don’t know what’s up with girls popping pimples off your back, but this is something better done in private. It’s a very, very private matter. To do that on live television is pretty disgusting. And my God, can you imagine the pimples on Howie’s back? He’s probably got a colony of zits growing there. And I feel sorry for the poor housemate who sat on that couch after them – there was probably a river of zit juice just oozing all over the place.

Please, Jennifer. Keep your hands to yourself.

Big Brother 6 fans rallied to vote Kaysar Ridha back into the house. They spent money casting text votes. They spent time casting Internet votes. An overwhelming 4.1 million out of 5 million votes were cast to bring Kaysar back. But with one great big lie, all the best efforts of 82% of the Big Brother 6 America’s Choice voters were quickly undone.

In order to convince Kaysar to allow her to win the head of household competition, Jennifer Vasquez swears on her life that she will put up two members of her own team and then back door James Rhine. But Jennifer quickly goes back on her word and puts up two members of the opposing team. However, Jennifer still insists that she will honor the principal of her deal and back door James.

During the power of veto competition, every thing still looks to be going according to plan as James doesn’t even get the chance to compete. The power of veto competition is a “coaster challenge” where Big Brother houseguests toss coasters featuring evicted houseguests and score points by landing the coaster on a ring representing the week the pictured houseguest was evicted. Big Brother throws an interesting wrinkle into the competition (perhaps to discourage future back dooring) by adding a rule that if no one scores a point in the “coaster challenge” then no one wins the power of veto. However, plenty of points are scored, and Rachel wins the power of veto with six points.

Then, “The Friendship” team starts to turn. Angry over America’s failure to vote Eric back in the game, Maggie declares “this is our game not America’s.” Maggie also adds “They pissed me off by not putting Eric back in here. Damn you America, I had Kaysar evicted and he still came back.” Jennifer discusses with all her team members who she should nominate but still assures Kaysar again that she is sticking to the plan.

As anyone would expect, Rachel uses the power of veto to save herself. Then the game takes a sinister twist as Jennifer nominates Kaysar instead of James. Even James is left gasping and can’t belive he is safe. Jennifer then gloats, “I broke my word, duh. That’s a part of the game. It does not say anywhere in the rule book that you can’t lie and promise someone something and then break it later.” An angry Kaysar states “Forget integrity, forget honor, forget the deal. They wanted me out. They’ve just proven themselves to be cowards.”

While lying is common place in the Big Brother house, Jennifer’s lie was one of the most blatant in Big Brother history as it was told as part of a deal in the head of household competition. TV Guide and Battle of the Network Stars recently conducted a poll where Omarosa was voted most hated reality TV star of all time. Jennifer’s move in betraying perhaps the most popular Big Brother houseguest ever might very well change the outcome of that poll if it was conducted today.

While it certainly was in “The Friendships” best interest to eliminate Kaysar, it probably wasn’t in Jennifer’s best interest. By going back on her word, she has become the number one target of the opposing team. Maggie and Ivette were bigger targets before Jennifer painted a bullseye on herself. In Big Brother, part of the strategy is avoiding becoming a target. If Jennifer had stuck to her word, then she would have been safe regardless of which team had won head of household.

Double the trouble is coming to the ‘Big Brother’.

CBS has announced that two HouseGuests will be evicted this week from the ‘Big Brother’ house, in the latest twist in the game.

One HouseGuest, most likely Kaysar Ridha, the 24-year-old graphics designer who was voted back into the game last week by the viewers, will be sent home on the live show tonight. Following the live eviction and Head of Household Competition, the new HOH will immediately go to the Diary Room and nominate two people for eviction and repeat the process live in front of the remaining HouseGuests.

The second eviction will be broadcast on this Saturday night’s edition. That person will be the first member of the ‘Big Brother 6’ jury.

What is curiously absent from CBS' announcement is if there will be the usual Veto Competition or not. The producers have warned the HouseGuests in the past not to expect a Veto Competition each and every week.
