Buturo slams Big Brother
ETHICS and integrity minister Dr. James Nsaba Buturo has condemned the reality television show Big Brother, saying it erodes the morality of Ugandans.
“People are spending valuable resources watching Big Brother, yet it has no merit whatsoever.
The country does not benefit anything at all from Big Brother. The performance is only a poison to the minds of our people”.
Ugandan housemate Maureen Namatovu was due for eviction from the house yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Buturo warned that the Government would take stern measures to protect the culture and morality of Uganda. He accused the media of aiding apologists of un-African conduct, such as homosexuality.
“Apologists are quick to quote international conventions and claim individual freedoms and rights, throwing away basic tenets of decency,” he said.
“They use such words as conservatives and extremists to frighten those of us who are trying to salvage morality.”
He appealed to the public to help the Government fend off gays and lesbians.
Lashing out at the media, Buturo added: “We have been infiltrated by some of the supporters and apologists. They own media houses or are employed in them so that they can propagate their ideas.”
