Owner's big bid to meet stars
by COLIN OSBORNE

A Herefordshire racehorse owner will join former Celebrity Big Brother housemate John McCririck and a top TV tipster team on Saturday after donating £10,000 to the tsunami appeal.

Businessman Malcolm Edwards, from Llanwarne, near Ross-on-Wye, put in the winning bid in a Channel 4 Morning Line fund-raising promotion, after one of his five racehorses, Spring Lover, came in by 14 lengths at 33-1 at Ludlow two weeks ago.

“The horse won easily, I didn’t have a penny on it, but the £3,500 prize money gave my bid for a place on the Morning Line a kick-start,” said Malcolm, who will join the likes of John Francome, Derek Thompson, Tanya Stevenson, and ‘Big Mac’ on their live 8am Channel 4 racing programme at Wincanton on Saturday.

“Some of my friends did have a bet on the Tote, which paid out at 20-1, and they had the cheek to complain,” said Malcolm,

“There have been so many children who have suffered after the tsunami disaster among the hundreds of thousands affected, I decided to make my bid available for the racing fund.

“If we can’t unite to help on something like this, then there’s no hope for us”, said Malcolm, who placed his winning bid for the appeal and TV stardom just before the deadline of 8am.

“The top bid stood at £9,000 at 7.55am, and I managed to beat that in time,” he said.

The chairman and chief executive of Moore Scott, a £35 million turnover company that markets and distributes building materials such as bricks and blocks to developers, contractors and architects, Malcolm has always been interested in and enjoyed racing.

“I will enjoy it even more now that I have five horses,” he said.
He also owns Fabulous Jet, Bewdelys Guest, Flying Enterprise and Malleton, all trained by Venetia Williams at Kings Caple, near Ross-on-Wye.
And how does Malcolm feel about meeting racing pundit John McCririck after his eviction from Celebrity Big Brother?

“I’m very much looking forward to meeting him and the rest of the team, although I did think he would stay in the Big Brother house for his nuisance value,” said Malcolm, who runs Spring Lover again at Ludlow tomorrow in the Moore Scott Handicap Chase.
