There is always that danger agreed, they could quite easily turn out to be as awful as Ahmed tho and be judged accordingly.

Or as good as Bez of course.

Is someone with a disability such a shock?

This is the great problem with message boards.Every single word is picked up on.Of course it is not shocking that someone is disabled, but if BB persist in their cureent tacticts you can expect a gay,a straight,a black,a white,a disabled,a transvestite,a transexual,a hermaphrodite......etc etc etc..

You know my point.

Uh-oh, I can see it now...Ch4 put a completely obnoxious person in a wheelchair in the BB6 house and the BB audience eats itself alive bickering over whether you can bitch about a disabled person, or whether it's totally not on.

The BB6 fight night might be outside the house!

Among BB enthusiasts, the topic of a disabled housemate has been discussed for years.

My own feeling is that it would be great to have a disable housemate - it would be a fantastic opportunity for someone to show that just because they are disabled, they aren't necessarily 'sweet' or 'nice'. But how do dear End'emAll find such a housemate - if they went out of their way to choose a disabled housemate, that might be seen to be partronising.

It's a bit like the argument about whether political parties should have a policy of allowing a certain number of women - of all things! - stand for election. If they leave things as they are, women will always be underrepresented in government, so having 'positive discrimination' can make sense.

Last year, the BB house looked like it was geared up to be wheelchair-friendly - but there was no disabled housemate. A great number of people were disappointed.

I don't think anyone would mind if a disabled housemate was booted out or hated because they were obnoxious - least of all disabled people. They just want to be treated equally after all.

Without wishing to sound too PC isn't it time they had a disabled HM?, I know there are practicalities to get over but I'm sure they can be overcome.

Hmm, aren't all people that go on BB somewhat disabled - from a mental aspect?

Seriously though, with the C4 production team now clearly out of ideas, i guess they may well indeed stick someone in the house in a chair. However, are the angry mobs gonna boo them when they get kicked out? Hmm, i can already see the headlines 'disabled person gets sickening reception from crowd'.

Tonights BB sucked, Davina for many remains 'BB', but I believe its time she got replaced with someone brand new.

Calrissian: Disgraceful indeed.

Putting in a disabled person merely for the sake of it would never work. Everyone should be in on their own merits and not because of some obscene desire of a producer or two.

Absolutely. Sadly though, 'tokenism' - something for which is now a large part of mainstream media, is going to continue in bb.

For BB5 we had the token 'transexual' - someone whom fans had been asking for since the distant days of bb2. Now that such a person has won, the bb production team will be looking for a new token, and indeed a 'disabled' person* seems distinctly possible for bb6/7. I suppose i could suggest to channel 4' that the new bb6 winner should be a female asian lesbian who is wheelchair bound - now might this be something they'll be looking for in the queues' this spring?

*although we are all 'disabled' in our own personable ways

Calrissian: Far from perfect, but always striving for perfection (much like the borg

I could always go in as the token single parent/neurotic mother type. I feel hugely underrepresented ;)

It is an interesting hypothesis, to putting in a disabled person, I was wondering that thing also during BB5 and again after they had Jackie in CBB3. But it means that they'll (disabled persons themselves) have to go to the auditions themselves and wanted to be putted in themselves. And I think that they should be the ones with normal intelligence. Back in history there has been many kinds of freak-shows entertaining common people - and I don't want to BB to become that kind of one at all. The production team has to keep reasonable morale.

I was actually watching something similar to this a few weeks ago. It involved a group of deaf, or those with only partial hearing discussing the possibilities of a deaf person in the house- and they were divided as to how it would work, but it got me discussing it with some of my friends who are deaf- and the upshot of it, I think it would work.

But, I'm not in favour of having a 'disabled big brother' because well, it just rankles a bit. Sorry to rant on -s'perks of having twisted ankle- too much time to think,

Isn't it a fact that disabled people wouldn't be able to do the more physical tasks, and so it wouldn't make the HM popular if they failed or couldn't take part

BB as a freak show? Hmm, in some ways it has always been that. Stick 12 people in an insane situation of manipulation and 24/7 public observation, and you have essentially a show for people to voyeur on in the most stark sense.

RE: morales. Is C4 responsible for supporting societal morals? Err, i don't think so, although i realise thats part of their tv license charter via the govt.

Calrissian: Moralistic, but in his own special way.
