Bez, the surprise winner of this year's Celebrity Big Brother contest, has been offered a deal by NewReg.com. As long as he gets there the end of February, he will receive the registration number BB05 BEZ for free.

Or at least he will if a paying customer doesn't get there before him. NewReg.com has not mentioned a price for this particular plate, but does quote from £2485 for G12 EER (relating to Germaine Greer) to £28,995 for L1 SAA (for Lisa I'Anson). We are quite sure the disparity in price has more to do with the normal value of these numbers rather than with the respective merits of the celebrities in question. Oh, yes. Quite sure of it.

"More than seven million new 05 number plates were released last December," says NewReg's Marketing Manager Markerle Davis. "That means that a whole new selection of they can be ordered now on the http://www.newreg.com website and can be delivered from March. But with the interest surrounding the show - we're expecting a rush on BB05 plates in particular."

After Big Brother 4, the reg. no 'BB 4' was quoted at £35,995 + vat and the reg. no 'CAM 11' at £39,995 + vat. I think 'CAM 11' is sold, but I recently saw 'BB 4' at something like £20k-odd.

There's none of that buying and selling reg. numbers in Ireland - here you buys a car, and you buys the number. Each year the numbers change - e.g. for this year it would be 05 D (for Dublin) 12345 etc. I think each year the Lord Mayor can have the first number - i.e. 05 D 1 etc.

You could indeed HF - it's a fascinating wee industry all the same. I have a pal who is a dealer in "personal reg numbers" and it seems he makes a tidy little sum from it.

A lot of people make a very good living from this industry. I knew someone who used to collect the log books from scrap cars in the South of Scotland, collecting SM and SW plates with low numbers.
His Uncle ran a scrap yard in the area and in those days people would give the log books away.

Wish I had collected a few ::lol::
