BARNEY Curley was involved in a heated on-air exchange with racing pundit John McCririck after the defeat of the Newmarket trainer’s Cristoforo at Folkestone yesterday.
Curley appeared on the At The Races satellite channel following his horse’s poor run in the Association Of Post Natal Illness Handicap Hurdle.
Cristoforo, who was forecast to be a hot favourite, eased in the on-course betting market and was pulled up before the final flight. McCririck said he believed the matter should have been referred to the Jockey Club for investigation by the local stewards, but Curley took issue.
"The problem is you casting reflections on me," he said. "You are downgrading racing, pouring out for inquiries, and you’re always pumping up things."
McCririck said: "It got a bit heated with Barney, but it was nothing compared to Jackie Stallone in the Big Brother house."
