"YOU'RE an old witch." "You fat old c***", "He's a cruel older man," are all charming phrases, I'm sure you'll agree.
They were uttered by the bright sparks in the Big Brother house over the past week. Have you spotted the theme that connects each phrase yet? The fact that "old" or "older" is seen as an insult, a despicable state to be in, a condition to detest.

Admittedly, gazing at Jackie Stallone's mis-aligned and mis-matched features could bring forth a a torrent of abuse from the kindest of souls. But the fact that she's getting on in years - conservative estimates say 75 - shouldn't be used against her.

I say this because the bullying of the older residents by the younger ones in the BB house has been cringeingly painful to watch. There was no sign of mutual understanding or respect whatsoever. Germaine, John and Jackie were tolerated only because they had to be - more often they were patronised and insulted.

The sight of Kenzie and Jeremy, doubled up with laughter, as Jackie struggled to negotiate her way between the loo and her bedroom in complete darkness, was nothing less than chilling.

"She's bouncing off the walls," giggled a corpsing Kenzie. "I can't wait until she needs a p*** again," spluttered Jeremy, in hysterics. Wouldn't your first instinct have been to help her out, no matter how detestable she seemed to you?

Apparently not anymore. Bez was the only one uncomfortable with the treatment of Jackie, which I suppose proves he's still got feelings, despite half his brain missing to drugs.

If that kind of behaviour is symptomatic of the way in which youngsters view the older generation, then I'm afraid there's not much hope for any of us when we pass into our twilight years.

No wonder we hear more and more of pensioners being beaten, robbed and raped. After all, where there's no respect, there's definitely no compassion.

I haven't watched Celebrity Big Brother since John got kicked out. With him went the honesty and the entertainment.

And if Brigitte, Caprice, and the rest of the attention-seeking, washed-up celebs left stewing there think they're so goddamn cute and watchable, how come the viewing figures have plummeted since the oldies left?

Why did this article not start with. The older housemates, Jackie, Germaine and John should have been more mature/understanding in their dealings with the younger less worldly-wise housemates? Why did they think they could patronise and insult the younger group and expect them not to retaliate? It is the older ones that should have shown how the remain dignified and credible in the circumstances they found themselves in for whatever reason they gave for their particapation in the show.

I didn't see the older HMs patronise or insult the younger ones especially. Germaine seemed very even-handed with everyone, and Jackie and John patronised and insulted everybody else, including each other! Lisa and Caprice seemed offended by John's age and looks more than anything else. I think this writer has a point.

None of them would go near Germaine in the kitchen because of the put-downs she always had on the tip of her tongue. She ordered them out of her way without any thought for the embarrassment she caused them. They all apart from [Bez and John] were not sorry to see her go.
Lisa and Caprice only brought John's looks and condition of his unsightly body to his attention after he gave Brigitte unwanted opinion about her facial lines, hairstyle and younger boyfriend.

Nonsense! L&C were carping about John's appearance long before that. Face it, there's no crime like being old for ageist twats like L & C.

Lisa and Caprice were never anything but sweetness and light to the 3 Cantankerous oldies. It was only when they saw/heard their juvinile behavour did they wash their hands of them.
