THE wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons has given £100,000 to a Haringey charity. Sally Bercow donated the money she earned from her stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house to Ambitious about Autism.
Ms Bercow is the patron of the charity, which is based in Woodside Avenue, Muswell Hill, which raises awareness of autism and runs a specialist school for children with autism.
The money will go towards a £10m fundraising campaign launched earlier this year by the charity to develop services, raise awareness and campaign for change.
Jolanta Lasota, chief executive of Ambitious about Autism, said: “We are truly inspired by what Sally did by going into Celebrity Big Brother and raising £100,000 for Ambitious about Autism.
“Not only was it a very generous act but Sally did an amazing job in raising awareness about autism.”
