Day 15: Task Alert - The Shredder

The fine paper chains that are holding the House together are about to be put to the shredder, in one of Big Brother's toughest tasks to date.

The housemates will be split into two groups in this challenge to see whether their House relations are paper thin.

Group 1 will be made up of Denise, Frankie, Gareth, Karissa and Kristina

Group 2 will be made up of Kirk, Michael, Natalie, Nicola and Romeo.

One of the groups will be sent to the large task room and the other will remain in the living room. Inside both rooms will be a big red button and a shredder. On top of the shredders will be letters from the other groups loved ones.

Each group will have 15 minutes to decide if they want their letters from home… or not.

If a housemate from either group pushes the button first and says the word ‘SHRED’, then their group will receive their letters from home and the other group’s letters will be destroyed.

If neither group has pushed their button at the end of the 15 minutes and said the word ‘SHRED’, then no one will receive their letters from home and ALL letters will automatically be shredded.

As soon as one group has pressed their red button, then the other housemates shredder will be deactivated.

Day 15: Letters from home - the fallout

Since the housemates had their letters from home read to them earlier, their minds have naturally wandered away from the House and back to their families. As a wise man (Romeo Dunn) once said, a stay in the House is short but it can feel like a lifetime. Some of our celebrities are feeling the distance tonight…

As a family woman, Nicola was ecstatic to hear her letter, but her feelings were understandably confused as she burst into tears almost straight away. After her lightning-fast response during the initial task, she made sure to thank her fellow housemates for the opportunity, apologising also to those that she had deprived by pressing the button earlier. Tough guy Michael was also reduced to tears when Gareth read his letter out. The Reservoir Dogs star has understandably been missing his family and hearing from them got a little bit too much for him. He's seemed very happy since this moment though. Musing with Romeo in the garden, he commented that 'it sorts out your priorities being in here'. Romeo was happy for Michael, commenting that he was happy as long as 'the family' was.

Those that didn't get to open their letters from home were affected by the experience too. Frankie and Denise felt the other housemates' letters hit home rather abruptly: both seem to have been reminded that their families are watching and are a bit worried about how they've been acting in the House. The lack of reassurance from their families might have been what triggered this reaction. Gareth was one losing housemate who was very happy to hear the letters, though, cheering as he found out that Nicola's group had won the task, and gleefully reading out the loved ones' reports from home.

‘HE TALKS A GOOD GAME’

This afternoon, Big Brother has set Gareth a secret mission. He will be given two hours to have a pep talk with each housemate ahead of tonight’s eviction. To succeed, he has to drop in as many sporting clichés to each person as possible. If he ‘wins the race’ and succeeds in his mission, Big Brother will give him his shredded letter from home.

Gareth will need to drop in the following lines into conversation:

It’s do or die

It’s a game of two halves

Put your game face on

The balls in your court

You think it’s all over, well it could be tonight

There’s no ‘I’ in team Kirk, but there is an ‘I’ in Kirk

It’s a one horse race

Get your head in the game

Don’t drop the ball / pull any punches

You’re in a league of your own

You talk a good game

The best defence is a good offence

Believing in yourself is the key to success

It sounds to me like they are trying to stitch Gareth up, because if someone watching misses the fact that this is a task and just turns the TV on as he is saying some of these things, they may change their opinion of him.
