Channel 4

Even before the dawn of MTV, the pop video was part of modern music's lexicon. But which is best? Channel 4 has let the great British public vote, but, as presenter Jimmy Carr says, that same public voted Michelle McManus Pop Idol of 2003, so let's not get too bothered. Instead, just savour myriad great videos. Stars and directors are interviewed for their memories, such as Smells like Teen Spirit director Samuel Bayer's recollection of how Kurt Cobain's hatred of Bayer's ideas on set fuelled the singer to turn in a crazed performance, mirrored by an increasingly bored (and unpaid for 12 hours on set) audience. Yet this became the famed video that launched Nirvana to superstardom. The good thing is that it's not at all obvious what'll be number one.

Thanks for that CC, I would have missed it.

My fave video of all time is Hurt by Johnny Cash- he was never my cup of tea until he recorded that.

Hope it's in the list but it's not exactly pop :D
