Verbal aggro over Peter Kay quip
THE bust-up between funnymen Peter Kay and Noel Fielding at a comedy fundraiser was no laughing matter.
The Mighty Boosh star Noel, who was heckled during his routine, was clearly not amused when Peter came on after him and made an off-the-cuff remark about Noel's set.
So while the sell-out crowd at London's Royal Albert Hall - who had turned up to see the cream of British comedy perform for the Teenage Cancer Trust, earlier this week - were roaring at Kay's one-liners, Noel was fuming backstage.
furious Fielding later confronted the 31-year-old Phoenix Nights star and demanded an explanation.
Other performers, including Irish comic Ed Byrne, Cold Feet star John Thomson, and US funnyman Reginald D Hunter, did their best to avoid getting dragged into the barney.
"Peter was going with the flow of the night. The remark was a spur of the moment thing - he didn't mean to offend anyone. But it was clear Noel was very angry.
"Peter promptly locked himself in his dressing room and avoided the communal Green Room to prevent any more aggro.
"He was lined up to do some interviews but they just didn't happen. He seemed reluctant to come out of his dressing room.
"Besides that one upset the night was a huge success and raised a lot of cash for charity."
Peter and Noel's representatives didn't return our requests for comment last night.
And comic-genius Peter ended up holed-up in his dressing room.
Trouble flared when Perrier Award-winner Noel had his surreal solo set ruined by a heckler telling him to, "F*** off".
Our insider at the Virgin-sponsored event says, "Fielding reacted well, but the heckle ruined the climax of his routine.
"People were laughing hysterically at the way Noel tore into the idiot in the crowd, but he was part way through the act and admitted he'd lost his train of thought.
"Noel finished soon afterwards but he was irate when he came off stage and was expecting the other performers to be supportive.
"But Peter, who was hosting the night, came on straight afterwards and made a jokey comment about Noel's act.
"He said it had all gone over his head and it wasn't his cup of tea. For Noel that was humiliating.
