Apart from resting my head (after a rather long session which seemed to go into extra-time and penalties) I spent most of this afternoon listening to all the songs (could I take any more pain?). I take it all back. I thought the majority of songs were pretty good - must be the best year yet. Makes it less of an annual popularity contest.

My fave was the Maltese Michelle McManus, I thought the joint Greek/Irish entry (with the Riverdance) sounded like ours (with a similar 'ethnic' influence in the chorus). Other than that I thought Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Cyprus and Atomic Kitten (Israel) were all not bad. As usual the French entry was an absolute crocque of merde and the less said about the Ukrainian revolutionary rap the better.

I still think Javine's song was good and at least deserved a top 10 place. But the big boys of Europe won't ever win the hearts of the block-voting Balkans and Baltics. And it's never the same without the Oirish.

When the Irish votes came in I half expected it to go, "Frank in Donegal, well he liked Cyprus so they got his vote..." :D

POP pundits blamed a lack of investment for Brit Javine's poor result at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The sexy Londoner, 23, came third bottom on Saturday with just 18 points.

Her song, Touch My Fire, was regarded as the strongest UK contender since Jessica Garlick came third in 2001.

But Laki Pattalis, owner of Europop record store Trehantiri, said that the problem was the BBC was not prepared to promote it properly. It also got very little radio airplay in the UK, he added.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Every year there are explanations why certain countries win or lose. People have different arguments as to why, and can come to their own conclusions.”

I thought it was dire and didn't like the winning song at all. Javine's song was very similar and yet only got 18 points. It was the usual political voting, which is what I dislike about Eurovision and we are one of the main contributors. :-?

IMO theres only 2 things I enjoy about Eurovision and thats Terry Wogans comments and the end. :D

And how long will it be before the political correctness brigade attempt to gag him? Poking fun at our continental friends is a national pastime! Long may it continue! :D
