Corrie star left shattered after wife asks for a divorce in note posted with his fan mail...
CORRIE's Johnny Briggs was stunned when his wife told him the reasons she wanted a divorce - in a letter delivered with his fan mail.
Johnny, 69, who plays factory boss Mike Baldwin, begged Christine to give their 30-year marriage another chance.
But despite hours of heartrending talks he has now had to admit defeat in his battle to save his relationship.
On Friday morning Johnny looked grim-faced and forlorn as he left a meeting with one of Britain's top divorce lawyers.
The dejected star, said to be "traumatised" by events, spent more than an hour discussing his options with Nigel Shepherd, a partner at Manchester law firm Addleshaw Goddard.
Later he cut a dejected figure as he walked through the city centre, clutching a pile of papers and speaking on his mobile.
Our source said: "Johnny was desperate to save his marriage. But Christine was adamant that they had come to the end of the road. The split has been very painful for Johnny. He has been absolutely shattered by it.
"Now he has had to endure the painful process of getting the divorce ball rolling."
