Tears, Lies & Videotape
ITV1 London, Monday 18 May 9:00pm - 10:00pmAlthough there's nothing startlingly new here, there's some fascinating detail about the little things that give us away when we lie. And the lies in Tears, Lies and Videotape are big. Remember a hollow-eyed Karen Matthews making "emotional" appeals for the return of her daughter Shannon? But did you notice her occasional little smirks? Looking back now, with the aid of psychology professor David Canter and professor Paul Ekman, an expert in "detection deception", Matthews did much to give herself away. There are other cases, too, like that of Tracie Andrews, who convinced police that her fiance had been murdered in a road-rage attack until it emerged it was she who'd stabbed him 42 times. Andrews had sobbed at a press conference as she appealed for information.
