A space portal vomits a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians onto an alien spaceship, while on Earth, a computer genius is visited by the military after solving an online video game. But don't panic: in the blink of an eye the two plot strands are sewn together . . . Pitching a nerd into a fantasy realm (à la Last Starfighter) is a fun conceit, but is it a good enough gimmick to reboot the franchise? Stargate-crashers might feel a bit lost, but ditch the glossary and just enjoy the Battlestar-infl uenced action and a stubbly Robert Carlyle trying to tone down his Glaswegian.
