Robbie Williams: Electric Proms 2009
BBC2, Tuesday 20 October 11:20pm - 12:05am The last I heard of Robbie Williams was a strange little Radio 4 programme last year in which he and documentary-maker Jon Ronson went hunting for UFOs. It was particularly odd because it was so low-key; Williams's natural home is in front of thousands of shrieking pop fans, because, whatever you might think of him, he's a strikingly brilliant live performer. Now he's back where he belongs, launching the BBC's Electric Proms from the Roundhouse in London with his first live show in more than three years, featuring songs from his new album, Reality Killed the Video Star and some of his classic tracks. There's a lot riding on this latest release, particularly after the comparatively listless reception given to his last album, Rudebox. And now Take That is doing very nicely indeed without him, thank you very much, the pressure is even greater. The Electric Proms continues on BBC2 until Thursday, with sets from Dizzee Rascal and Doves.
