Last Woman Standing
BBC3, 1/6 - Brazil: Wrestling Tuesday 09 February 9:00pm - 10:00pm
The female version of the tribal sports series proves even better than the original for three reasons. Women really don't moan anywhere near as much as their male counterparts when they're having a hard time - and they endure painful and bloody scarification that will have many hiding behind their sofas. They're also more interested in the ritual elements of life and less fixated on winning their events than the guys in Last Man Standing. Five British women, ranging from an Olympic boxing hopeful to a watersports fanatic, start with a journey to an Amazonian village. They live and train with the Kamaiura, hunter-gatherers who, for one week a year, put the women in charge. And that means a chance for the bare-breasted Amazons to compete at wrestling. How will the Westerners fare when they challenge the champions?
