My Family's Crazy Gap Year
Channel 4 - 1/6, series 1, Monday 06 September 9:00pm - 10:00pm The well-heeled Willmotts are taking their three kids (aged six, nine and 12) on a year-long adventure to some of the remotest parts of the world in the hope that, they'll appreciate more their privileged lifestyle back home. An admirable sentiment. And, apart from a car crash on a mountain road in Ladakh, near Tibet, it goes remarkably well. There are no childish strops - at least not on camera - and no one gets really ill (which is fortunate, because mum, Rafia, hopes homeopathic medicine will be enough to protect them from malaria and other diseases). They seem convinced it was A Good Idea and a great way to broaden young horizons. You may think family gap years are a bit of middle-class self-indulgence.
