The Secret History of Eurovision
More4, Saturday 07 May 9:00pm - 10:40pm They're labouring under a dodgy premise here - that the Song Contest has had a profound influence on the sociopolitical development of Europe. "With or without the help of Celine Dion, the Communist stranglehold over Eastern Europe was loosening..." is just one hilarious aside, in a film that conflates Cliff Richard's Congratulations with the 1968 student riots, and Dana's All Kinds of Everything with the Irish Troubles. It's only when we see the former Eastern Bloc's resolute rejection of Eurovision crumble to embrace then conquer it that the argument starts to convince. But for naff-tastic clips alone this doc gets douze points.
