The Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant BBC News 1:30pm - 6pm
Prepare to board the royal barge for the centrepiece of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, an epic and beautiful Thames pageant. If you get a little bit emotional about occasions like this, full of pomp and circumstance, then expect to shed a tear at this huge celebration featuring more than one thousand boats. They’ll accompany the Queen’s royal barge as it sails along the Thames in procession from Battersea Bridge to Tower Bridge.
This ultra-patriotic flotilla, the largest of its kind ever assembled on the river, will be meticulously tracked by the BBC’s coverage. There will be eight cameras on board the royal barge itself, while Matt Baker and Sophie Raworth comment on proceedings from a studio near the Old Billingsgate former fish market. On the BBC’s own special boat, the Zephyr, Frank Skinner, Griff Rhys Jones, Omid Djalili, Sue Johnston and Sandi Toksvig
will, we are promised, offer “an alternative and amusing reflection on the pageant”. Oh dear, never mind, you can always turn the sound down.
Huw Edwards, Matt Baker and Sophie Raworth host live coverage of The Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant. For the first time in 350 years, a flotilla of 1000 boats will sail down the river Thames in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen's 60 year reign.
