Rick Stein's India - BBC2, 9pm
“There’s something about curry,” Rick Stein insists in his appetiser to this series. “Just the thought of it ignites a longing deep inside us.”
And from that hyperbole you’ll get an idea of his enthusiasm levels for all things spicy.
But curry is a British word and the locals he consults turn out to have very different ideas about its meaning.
Somehow, Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey, shown in 2009, managed to miss out India, but he’s putting that right now with this six-part series based on three months of foodie exploration around the sub-continent gathering recipes for his latest cookbook.
And we’ll watch him prepare them in a specially built kitchen in a wooden hut on a glorious lagoon.
It’s a long way from the chaos and urban bustle he encounters as he samples street food in Bengal.
If you’re the sort of person whose first thoughts at the words “street food” are wanting to know where the chef does his dishes and when he last washed his hands, you might want to skip this bit. : @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
