...................................................
Foxy Blue Peter person Zoe Salmon has been unwittingly embroiled in a race row, according to the Independent.
The telly presenter and ex-beauty queen comes from Northern Ireland. And some retired schoolteacher has complained to the Commission For Racial Equality that she got her big job at the Beeb owing to "positive discrimination" towards Celts.
Apparently the plum children's TV post was advertised solely in local rags in Scotland and Northern Ireland (so what about the Welsh, then?), a disability newspaper and thesps' rag of choice, The Stage.
Moaning teacher Dorian Wood's beef is what he calls "crackpot political correctness" at the BBC, to the alleged detriment of potential presenters with rural and regional accents.
The Beeb, of course, denies the allegation, adding its belief that the hunt for a new presenter which ended in the lovely Zoe was their "widest ever" (writes the Indy).
John Noakes is 107.
