its amazing how some people forget as they get older

i had schoolmates who were sexually active at 12 back in 1980, the 60's and 70's were just the same. maybe its because i'm not a parent that i don't think kids are doing anything differant to what we did at the same age.

does becoming a parent imediately wipe out part of someones memory?

No not in the slightest but it does make you want to do your best to make sure your kids don't make the same mistakes as you did. I definately think the average age at which young people are having sex has got younger and as I said before SDT's statistics are higher than they have ever been.

12 year olds have just left primary school :-?

that's madness, I've never known anybody to be pregnant that young.

quite worrying when you think about it, you can get married/have sex according to the law BEFORE you can buy tippex. :-?

shame it's getting so late big sis, we've hardly spoken today! If you have a wee while longer (that's all I have) we could have a chat in the pub/the gossip thread? 15 pages already :D

:puke: @ hippo!

I do remember one girl from my school who was having a boyfriend at the age of 12 to 13. And another one who became a mother by the age of 15 to 16. And it was back in 80s in a 'city' where were about 25'000 inhabitants. (And by the law - this certain young mother can still sue the father of her child by that age she had sex with him over being a pedofile.) We knew that and it was terrible for them and for us. No-one wanted to be their mates or friends, because rest of us were normal children and teenagers by that age. We were having our hobbies and lots of healthier things to do in our lives and we don't regret any of it as we have grown adults, got married and had children of our own. So the parenthood haven't changed us a bit from those days. I also know lots of adults over here that haven't had sex at all because they haven't found their Mr or Miss right one yet and adults that have had sex only after they've got married. So it hasn't been common at all back in 50s, 60s, 70s or 90s, hippo! Big talks and rumours (do you really believe in them) but not the truth of the average children and teenagers at all! :-? Critisism over things that you hear from your friends or mates when you are a child or teenager (sometimes when you are an adult) IS healthy! Stories are usually really far from thruth and real reality.

So there's REAL need to tell children, teenagers and young adults that it is OK to say NO to sex.

You always have a choice. No-one has the right to force someone else to have sex. That's why Marital rape is acknowledged as a crime.

No, but it would be a lot more pleasant if it did! ;)

It seems like only yesterday....

It's wielding of power in a wrong way. And we all are under it by the entertainment and marketing business ("sex sells") that creates certain types of images in our minds what we should be or do or how often we should do it and how we should wear and look like to please opposite sex all the time. We should protect children and teenagers from that pressure in their lives in every way we can but maybe some women, adults, needs protection in their relationships as well whether they had a regular partner or they are married. We should also protect them from their mates and friends that don't have critisism over these things and who has been brain-washed with all that sexuality that is seen every day in every media.

I just ment that earlier comment of mine in a sarcastic way, but thanks for sharing it GG! :D

The last thing the teenagers of today need is being told what to do by older people.

Teenagers are well aware of what their choices are, they don't need to be dictated to by anyone, least of all some B-list pop singer. Todays generation are more aware of things than any previous one.

There's no harm in his message to youngsters about the dangers of teenage sex. You will always get kids who don't listen in every generation and in every generation there have always been worries and concerns by adults. Most adults naturally want to protect the young, so if it's not about sex it's teaching them about drugs, or alcohol, or driving, or careers or how to kick a ball. I think it's a fairly broad generalisation to think that children won't listen to what adults tell them. It's not a case of them being told what to do. It's adults giving advice - what teenagers do with that advice is still their choice.

Yes, thats right, they [Scandinavians] are culturally superior to the UK, even the data support on it, in terms of standard of living, abortions, etc.

Calrissian: Flying the flag for the youth of the 21'st century.

As for being culturally advanced it all depends on your perspective - one nation's view of 'culturally advanced' will be totally different to another's. Remember, they still think 'Eurovision' constitutes serious music!

Must say, we do get it hammered into us A LOT though.

Especially in S2 - 4 we got a lot of SE lessons about saying 'no' and 'protection' etc.

The best thing the government could do to reduce teenage pregnancies is to stop boosting teenage mothers up the council house waiting list for a start. That'll learn 'em to play Happy Families.

::lol:: ::lol:: ::lol::
Tastyfish, as long as I have lived and had friends that earns their living from music-industry, all I can say that Eurovision has really bad reputation over here and people don't appreciate the constitute at all.

Calrissian, I think that this subject is Universal, not anything between UK and Scandinavia.

I still wonder why the only thing that some male has written over here is women that get pregnant (oh, you can't ;) ) and having new lives (yours as well) - worst thing that you should be scared of are diseases (HIV and other) and irresponsibility that grows from brain-washing of entertainment and market economy that tries to sell everything with sex. And I think that men are the most irresponsible race what comes to getting women pregnant. :-? Most of men are not built that way that they could take their half of responsibility from a new life.
