I can't believe that anyone would take such a decision lightly but I do believe it should be their own decision. I don't think anyone has the right to impose their views on another in such a situation.

Exactly Sunny...people don't know the circumstances of some people.
I do think that those idiots who use it as a form of contraception are fecking retarded (excuse my language, but I did know a girl who thought like that)

Thought I'd drag this thread up, as the programme is on Tuesday, 11.05, C4.
Apparently film is shown of a woman having an abortion at 4 weeks - and the results in a petri dish. Also there's some still photographs of foetuses aborted at about 10 and 20 weeks. Will be disturbing to watch.

I'm not sure that I can watch it either. On a very personal level I got sterilised because when I thought I might be pregnant I contemplated abortion for the first time ever and I've always been against it. I wasn't but didn't want to be put in that position again.

Well I am not going to watch it, I think it is a personal choice for a woman to decide and I think this show (could be wrong) is going to make many women whom have had abortions made to feel guilty.

I feel very strongly about this because my mum had to have an abortion many years ago, if she didn' t she would have died, but also the child would have been born dead anyway as there had been too many complications. Like you Lynns my mum was also sterilsed because it had become dangerous for her to be able to give brith.

To be honest I am glad she made that choice as I was only a child at the time attending primary school, if she didn't me and my brothers would have grown up with out a mum. At the time I didn't know what was going on only that my mum was really ill and I had to live with my grandparents for a few months.

However I don't agree with women using abortion as a contraceptive and having dozens of abortions, especially when there is so many preventative methods in todays market.

:-( :-( :-( ....about the whole set up. My heart goes out to the women, unborn babies and the situation at large.

IT'S ON TONIGHT EVERYONE.

Saw an advert on the TV saying (now don't quote me) that 1/3 of all women have had an abortion of some description....I'm presuming they are also including the morning after pill with this.

I doubt it TC...when someone takes the morning after pill it's more of a prevention like contraception. They more than likely aren't even pregnant at the time.
Perhaps they are talking about the different types of abortion procedure.

I heard that figure too. It's frighteningly high.

*Gets her serious head on*

Forgive me for challenging this HD.....I had very similar opinions to this myself. My final year at uni challenged my thinking. The challenge lies in where/when you class oneself as 'being with child'.

Technically when a spermatocid meets an oovum....that is when conception happens. At this split second that is 'a new life' comes about. The fertilised egg then moves down the fallopian tubes/upper uterus and impregnates into the uterus wall and it is at this site the foetus then grows and develops.

The morning after pill, does not stop the 'meeting of the cells'/ conception, but simply prevents impregnation. So technically, the morning after pill stops pregnancy, but scientifically does not stop conception. This is the reason why you had many pro-life groups were fighting against over-the-counter sales of the MAP.

In short, the MAP is not prevention of conception, but is prevention of pregnancy. This fact is often overlooked. But very noteworthy IMO.

Phew serious bit over.

Yeah I know what you're saying, but you they can't reallty class it as a type of abortion because not everyone gets pregnant even if they didn't take the morning after pill.
