Yeah this is also true.

So if they DO NOT include the MAP as part of the abortion figures.....then 1/3 of women in the UK is a HUGE number. :eek: :-(

I missed it. I couldn't make up my mind at first if I wanted to watch it or not but think I would have at least started to watch it. Does anyone know if it is going to be repeated? (This sort of carries on from a post on another thread.) ${

Yeah sorry Sunny. I'd mentioned it elsewhere. Hope not too much confusion. :oops:

I watched it. Both points of view were made, but I don't think anybody's minds would have been changed particularly, either way. Except there is new technology now that shows the foetus in the womb - in 3D, moving and in very sharp detail, which might change the mind of some women who were having a late abortion (for lifestyle rather than medical reasons). Apparently 87% of abortions are performed in the first 12 weeks and only 1% at 20 weeks (they didn't say how many of those were for medical reasons).

I looked away from the pictures of late-stage aborted foetuses, but the abortion they showed was done in a very matter-of-fact way and I didn't find it upsetting. They embryo (I think it was 7 weeks) was a red blob.

As you probably know, the film-maker was heavily pregnant during the making of the film, and a large proportion of the film consisted of lingering shots of her swollen belly and, at the end, her (very cute) baby. She kept saying she was pro-choice, but these pictures sent out the opposite message. I think she should have stayed behind the camera.

Apparently 1.5 million people watched it, and C4 have had 10 complaints.

Well 10 out of 1.5 million doesn't sound like many.

I think it was much-hyped by the media and wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. The film was very factual and the fact that the film-maker had had an abortion herself and said she didn't regret it towards the end of the film, showed there was no bias from her point of view. I have heard of the agonies women have had through making a decision they regretted later, wishing they could turn the clock back. I expect some of those would have wished the psychological aspects to be discussed. However, overall it gave an insight to life within the womb, even when we don't see it.

I have always said if someone can be mature enough to make a baby then surely they can have the baby. I'm sorry but I just don't agree with abortion. They surely know all about the contraception that is available these days, there is no excuse! :-(

If there are going to be complications with the mother however, I do think that is different but otherwise it's a life of a child no matter what.

Well I have to say that I got pregnant while on the pill so I have to disagree with you. I don't agree with abortion for myself but that is a personal choice. There are some circumstances where it is impossible to follow the pregnancy thru and if the decision has to be made I would imagine that it would not be done lightly or with a lot of pain, not only at the time but throughout that person's life....I think we need to be a bit more empathic with certain situation...nothing is ever black or white.

Agree with you Lou. I truly believe that, when we ourselves are perfect ONLY then can we point the finger at others!! In fairness to Suzanne though, I think she also makes a valid point, and I do not believe Suzanne to be the type of person who'd be critical and judgemental, and comes across as VERY accepting of other's whatever the situation. But I would also like to point out......very many of the forum members are caring people too, and of course I include yourself in that too. @^@

I agree with LS, I have sat for hours with women who have had an abortion. Whether that was for medical, financial or personal reasons. The pain, hurt and more importantly 'Guilt' that they express is overwhelming. When you hear of the turmoil they have gone through, finger pointing of any description is totally out of the question. Love and openess is the only way they manage to come through a very difficult situation. Have to also mention however, is that a question many of them have asked of 'themselves' is why did they allow themselves to get in such a situation in the first place.

CC......I think (also) made a VERY, VERY valid point and one that IMO takes presidence over all her other comments, and that was with her opening sentence. If contraceptive is not fully effective against preventing pregnancy, then what is???
