MYSTIC RIVER
If anyone missed the chance to see this film in the cinema and find themselves wanting a good mystery thriller then you couldnt go far wrong with this.
Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring the 2 oscar winning actors from this year in Sean Penn and Tim Robbins, its a marvellous film. It strikes a chord within you and I definitely recommend it to anyone.
Its a great story and you can see why the actors won the awards (although I would have given Penn the oscar for 21 grams instead). It tells the tale of 3 friends and how they cope with a situation which rocks them all. Its a very moving tale and questions morality within us all.
Class stuff. 9/10
BIG FISH
Tim Burton's nice little fantasy is a delight to watch and shows to me anyway how good an actor Ewan McGregor is. The story is about how a son believes his father has constantly lied to him about his past. Now on his deathbed, the father is told to come clean with what really happened in his life. Its a modern day fairytale and has some of the nicest scenes from cinema in the last year.
Albert Finney is brilliant as the father and tells the stories in a Forrest Gump style way. If you have a vivid imagination then you should really check it out. Some people wouldn't like it but I found myself emotionally tied to it and thoroughly enjoyed it. The sets alone are fantastic and was in my view harshly overlooked at the cinema.
If you wish to leave the reality of your surroundings for 2 hours then you cant do far wrong with this.
Imaginative stuff - 8/10
Both films are in your local DVD store to rent at the moment, although you probably will be watching BB all the time. Just in case you get bored and want a change.
