I am off on holiday to visit my relatives in America this week, so I thought I would leave you with a review for what I think is THE BEST comic book movie of all time.

Anyone who seen the first Spiderman and enjoyed it, will be pleased to know that you wont be let down.

The movie starts off with scenes in comic form showing what happened during Spiderman 1, so anyone who hasn't seen the first film can get in to this one straight away. Although I advise you to see the first film, as its quite a good film.

The film shows how Peter Parker wishes to shed his Spiderman image once and for all, because it is a burden to him and his relationships. I have never seen a hero go through so much hardship within a film, he is everyones doormat for most of the film.

The story (It may contain minor spoilers, so be careful):

Alfred Molina plays Dr Otto Octavious who is a genius scientist who has created a way to control fusion. Oscorp (owned by the Green Goblins son) have put faith in Otto for this experiment, they think he is about to show the world something on a monumental scale. To be able to control something with such energy as the sun. Of course, this goes terribly wrong or we wouldnt have DR OCTOPUS (Otto) as the villian in this piece. Anyone who knows the comics will know he has a German accent, for this film he hasn't and this is only a minor flaw if you can even call it that. So from this experiment is born DOC OCK, a man with 4 tentacles attached to his spine that have steel claws at the end of each one.

Doc Ock, played brilliantly by Molina (inch perfect) gets controlled by the tentacles - they talk to him as his mind and them are one. He wishes to perform the experiment again, showing that none of what happened during the last time was his fault. He wishes for fusion and as Oscorp are the only ones with some, he asks Harry Osborn for some. Harry however, holds a grudge against Spiderman because he believes he is responsible for his death (As we seen in the first film) and tells Doc Ock that he will give him the fusion if he gives him Spiderman. Harry Osborne likes Peter Parker and does not know he is Spiderman or that even his father was The Green Goblin. Doc Ock obliges and so begins a game of cat and mouse.

While this is going on, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) yearns for Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). Peter hates the fact that he cannot be with Mary Jane because if she or anyone knew he was Spidey then it would put her in harms way. Mary Jane however, is in a relationship with an astronaut and this hurts Peter/Spidey and begins to lose some of his powers. He throws away his Spiderman suit to try to live a normal life.

New York now has no Spiderman to stop Doc Ock or any other criminal for that matter.

Wont spoil any more..ENOUGH.

The SFX are fantastic and some of the best I have seen. Molina is incredible and IS Doc Ock as if he just came off the page. In fact, the whole casting is perfect!!!!!

The love story will be tugging at your heartstrings between Spidey and Mary Jane. You feel for them both, you know as the viewer that he can't tell her who he is. Its eating away at him, the poor man can't even afford to pay the rent. His life sucks and he is supposed to be the saviour of the whole city.

There are great comedy moments during the film and watch out for an appearance of Bruce Campbell (Ash from Evil Dead) as well as the creator of all Marvel Comics - Stan Lee.

The story is perfect, sometimes I was thinking am I watching a superhero or a romantic film. The characters all blend in this movie as if they were born to play these roles. I cannot fault anyones role apart from the accent on Doc Ock compared to the books.

Roll on Spiderman 3 and if its half as good as this, I will be happy. Doc Ock is cool as hell and you cant help feel sorry for Peter Parker, he is your average guy who never gets the breaks.

All in all, just fantastic and the film I have been waiting for which has SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER written all over it. To think the woeful Catwoman will be released soon and after seeing this, it should just head for the bargain bin.

Rating 9.3/10 (I'm a Comic Book fan and this is possibly the greatest)

GO SPIDEY, GO!!!!!!!
