Sixties star Lulu signs for Radio 2
Sixties singing sensation Lulu has been signed up as a new Radio 2 DJ.
She will join the likes of Jonathan Ross and Terry Wogan on the station, which has just announced a record number of listeners.
The 54-year-old, famous for hits like Shout and Boom Bang-a-Bang, will present a Sunday show celebrating the art of songwriting.
Two other new faces to join the station's weekend line up are Dermot O'Leary, presenter of Channel 4's Big Brother, Little Brother, and Elaine Page.
O'Leary will present a new Saturday afternoon show, Dermot's Saturday Club, which will feature "live sessions, features, competitions and top quality music".
Theatre star Elaine Page will present a Sunday show featuring music from stage and screen.
Lamarr, who already presents reggae and rock n' roll shows for the network, will play tracks from the Sixties on Saturday evenings, in Mark Lamarr's Alternative Sixties.
Lulu, whose last high profile job was fronting Red Alert, the BBC1 lottery show, five years ago, said the Radio 2 show would feature some of the best-loved songs from the Fifties to the present day.
She said: "This new programme shows just how important great songwriting is to Radio 2. I'm thrilled about being involved with it."
Radio 2 Controller Lesley Douglas said: "It's wonderful to have talent such as Dermot, Elaine and Lulu joining forces with our existing presenters."
