Edwards was in TV's Little House on the Prairie for five years
US character actor Sam Edwards, well known for his role in TV serial Little House on the Prairie, has died aged 89.
Edwards made many appearances in US TV series including Happy Days, The Dukes of Hazzard, Wonder Woman and Cannon.

His film credits included The Postman Always Rings Twice and Hello Dolly!, and he was the town banker in Little House on the Prairie for five years.

Georgia-born Edwards died last Wednesday after suffering a heart attack, his stepson William said.

Born into a showbusiness family, Edwards made his stage debut as a baby in his actress mother's arms.

He appeared on radio with his family in the 1930s in The Adventures of Sonny and Buddy, and later in The Edwards Family, before moving on to TV in the 1950s.

Edwards worked regularly in TV into the 1980s, appearing on such shows as The Streets of San Francisco and Dragnet.

He also supplied the voices for several children's productions and appeared on Winnie the Pooh records as Owl and Tigger.
