Micheal Aspel and Bob the moan Geldof have joined the the rest of the over the hill presenters who should know better then to watch reality tv.
Reality Tv is not aimed at their age group, just like the shows they once presented were not aimed at their age group when they were the on TV.
First it was Bruce Forsyth, then came Des Lynam, Cilla Black and Michael Parkinson. Now another veteran presenter has joined the official legion of grumpy old men AKA jealous-presenters-who-can't-accept-they-have-to-move-on complaining about today's telly output. "I think reality TV has sunk to unbelievable levels. There is a huge amount of intelligent stuff on television but there is certainly too much of what makes me furious," 71-year-old Michael Aspel told the Manchester Evening News. But to be fair to the Crackerjack man, at least he admits he is intolerant "There's no doubt that you get to a certain age with a certain experience and you do get intolerant. But these shows are embarrassing and I only watch until I confirm what I fear. There's always been a load of rubbish and a lot of good stuff around. It's just the balance has been slightly altered now."
Even grumpier old man attacks himself
Is it Get TV Bosses Week or something? Mike Aspel isn't the only one this week to have a go at those poor mites responsible for what's on our screens. Except this time it really is going to hurt. Bob Geldof, has taken a brief break from filming a documentary to mark the 20th anniversary of Live Aid, to bemoan modern TV. He complained at an awards ceremony in the House of Lords that the ever-increasing amount of information on the box decreased the amount of knowledge available. CNN, he said, was bad while BBC News 24 "doesn't know what it's meant to be doing at the moment". He reserved his praise for Sky News, calling it an "admirable service". Sir Bob then got stuck into reality TV, but in a characteristically honest fashion for the man whose Planet 24 production company created Big Breakfast, late night trashfest The Word and the Survivor format. "I can barely stand to watch TV at the moment," the great man said "but I'm probably responsible more than anyone else for its current dire path."
