He was once a lithe, all-singing, all-dancing heart-throb, but now he's hit his middle years, it appears John Travolta is hankering after a more fuller role.
Well that's what it would appear after news reaches us that the Pulp Fiction icon is the favourite to take the lead role in the remake of the 1988 film Hairspray. Travolta would star as the overweight drag queen Edna Tumblad, played by Divine in the original camper than a row of tents flick.
"Edna Tumblad is not a character you associate with John Travolta," David Poland, editor of Movie City News told the New York Post. "He's never played high camp, but now he's ageing. It's time for him to start playing senior adults, instead of clinging to the macho stuff."
Bosses hope the remake of Hairspray will be released in time for Christmas 2006.
