The Royal Family are to feature in a three-part documentary programme to be screened later this year.

Provisionally titled Windsor, the BBC series will focus on life behind the scenes at Windsor Castle, with the Queen featuring several times.

Programme-makers at production firm RDF spent a year gathering footage at the castle, which includes an interview with the Duke of Edinburgh.

RDF was also behind Faking It and Wife Swap, which both aired on Channel 4.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: "The series focuses on life at Windsor Castle and the surrounding area, including the Crown Estate, Windsor Great Park and St George's Chapel.

"The Duke of Edinburgh will talk about the castle and his role as a ranger."

Television rights have already been sold to the United States, Canada, Australia and Germany.

The BBC was unable to confirm a transmission date for the programme, although it is thought to be scheduled for transmission on BBC One in the spring - meaning it could coincide with the marriage of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles in April.

Wife Swap, which was made by RDF for Channel 4, became a ratings winner when it was launched in 2003. It was also made for US network ABC.

The Royal Family is to appear in a TV documentary from the makers of Wife Swap.
Viewers will get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of life at Windsor Castle in the BBC1 series.

The Duke of Edinburgh has granted the programme makers a rare interview and the Queen will feature in several scenes.

The three-part series, provisionally titled Windsor, is likely to be broadcast in April - coinciding with the wedding of the Prince of Wales and Camilla
Parker Bowles.
